let me go back to david chalian because, david, i'm just curious. the base that supports trump. is this going to have any impact at all on the republican process? well it may fortify the base. initially we've seen that when donald trump has come up against circumstances. like this, but what is so interesting and to see wolf is that over the course of the last couple of weeks once trump went out there and said incorrectly that he was going to get arrested on that tuesday what he started doing through social media appearances through his rally through interviews was to provide the script to the republican university large about how he's looking for republicans to respond to this moment, so as we're watching now, the reaction coming in from his allies on capitol hill, even from some of his competitors in the present. henschel race like nikki haley or others who have said this is a political prosecution. you're starting to see republicans rallying around the very script that donald trump wrote for them. what i think is critical to watch going forward is are we going to see any repub

david chalian, you're a political director.s not concerned about a house ethics probe. but should he be? >> well, i don't know of a member of congress who is the subject of an ethics probe who doesn't have some concern. so sure, he should be. i think what manu got out there that is so important is the scope of what has been put forth of what is being investigated. that alone should give him pause. now, we've seen for months now george santos seems almost impervious to public pressure around any kind of decision to abandon his post or leave the house, wolf. we have seen in the past other members do face mounting pressure when they are in the midst of an ethics probe that may cause them to make different decisions about their future. we don't know if santos will choose that or not. but when this is wrapped up and we learn more about what the ethics investigation finds perhaps, then i do think as manu noted there's going to be a lot of pressure on kevin mccarthy on whether or not that requires additional action. >> jeff zeleny, i

cnn political director david chalian spoke with our jake tapper about some of the poles underlying thenthusiasm are not bad things to have supporters. donald trump has them here. so, if you look at our poll, among trump supporters, 76% say they're locked into him and they're not going to change their mind. 59% of desantis supporters say that about their candidate. so, that shows that donald trump has real commitment. also, we look at enthusiasm. 51% of trump supporters consider themselves, call themselves to be very or extremely enthusiastic about participating in the 2024 primary. but 43% of desantis supporters say that, jake. so, again, he wins on the enthusiasm score, he went on the commitment. but when we looked at, like, first and second choice put together, desantis actually tossed trump. so, desantis has room to grow. trump may have a lower ceiling, but with that kind of stickiness, it could be sufficiently high to win the nomination. >> yeah. >> among the qualities republican voters are looking for in a candidate, 87% say sharpness and stamina. 59% want someone who will keep so
