we're here to commend david chiu for bringing forth item 67, the resolution urging protection of the estuary. this speaks to the importance of a healthy estuary. fresh water play is a crucial [inaudible] acts as a nursery for commercially important species such as dungeonous crab and [inaudible] helped build san francisco and contribute to the economy even today rely on adequate fresh water from the sacramento river. fresh water flows from these two rivers are rich in nutrients and other food sources for the bay's e koe system. fresh water carries suspended sediment which is vital to our restoration efforts around the bay. furthermore passed by the board of supervisors in 2010 in which the board of supervisors urged the legislature [inaudible] health of san francisco bay and delta by taking actions to reduce the amount of fresh water diverted from the bay and delta. along with our colleagues at [inaudible] par ner ship, funds of the san francisco eschew air urges passage of this resolution today. hank you very much. >> thank you. next speaker. >> president, supervisors, i want to tha

i have a couple of items. i'd like to thank supervisor david chiu for address r dressing these issues with a stakeholder group he's been working with for some time now and look forward to coordinating my efforts with his as well. as the miller bill moves forward in congress this year, the schedules at work act is expected to spark a national conversation about fair scheduling policies for workers similar to the broad public dialogue about raising the minimum wage policies locally but also on a nationwide level as a much needed and common sense approach to addressing the growing inequality in our city and income inequality in general. for their lead ir ship on thesish shies i'd like to commends congressman miller and the worker advocacy groups that have been working for years with including the law senters popular democracy, the national [inaudible] wanted to announce that in parallel with these efforts on the national level i've been working for the last several years with a coalition of community organizationings and i'd like to announce that next week i'll be introducing legislation

you to the entire group of agencies that are sitting here with me beginning with board president david chiu our school board and assistant superintendant gerrero is here and our wonderful housing authority and its commission is here we have so many community groups from the school board to the community agencies that want to see you succeed and naeksz in addition to recognizing our efforts in graduating this 2014 year we're making sure that we introduce you to ail the different resources so you understand that it you are full residents of our city and making sure you succeed so how about a good paying summer job anyone want a good paying job yeah. well, we've got those jobs to transition you i want you to think about your college ability as well because the differences in income between someone that graduates from college and someone that didn't it's over one million dollars in our professional life so join the million dollar club and make sure you take care of that if it's not immediately very soon in the future we have good paying summer jobs thirty percent of them transfer into year rand

and i do know that there is -- i think supervisor david chiu is looking at doing some revisions to the 14 b ordinance and also the mayor and naomi kelly reported back a couple months ago, have done -- have conducted some outreach workshops to lbes to get their recommendations on ways of which to improve and make it easier for lbes, sbes to do business with the city. the formula retail, so, the planning heard both of the items at the thursday, july 17th meeting. the planning commission is going to continue to support the planning department's recommendations around the number of entities that will trigger formula retail. and at this point i think there will be two kind of parallel pieces of legislation for the board of supervisors, then, to finally bring together. the planning department formally introduced their ordinance last week and, so, technically this should come back before the commission and i will, you know, let me know if you'd like to hear it again. if you don't, you don't have to. but that's to decide in the next week or two. and then i have a list of recently introduced le

we got a report from board president david chiu. and if people want to hear, they're worried about with the new cruise terminal coming there is going to be a night club, like a nation live down there. and he said, no. director moyer talked to president chiu and i told him the same thing. we have no clubs on the waterfront. we don't. and the cruise terminal is not going to be like the america's cup with live nation and all that. it's going to be a family place for cruises and stuff like that. and in talking about this project, mark, what you and john have been doing, i think that it's very thoughtful. i have an open mind. i haven't really reached a conclusion, but i think we're going in the right direction because it's local businesses, it's a good fit. and this is a city, we say what we really do, we can pay no tourism. we're trying to get to a goal of a million passengers a year with the new cruise terminal. we have to have something to entice people to come to the waterfront. this is going to be part of a community, lockal busines

that's why i've joined up with supervisor david chiu on his family friendly workplace we're going to be funding a bit of that this year. he's been asking for that extra funding to make sure it's not just a good sounding ordinance but we reduce the barriers for working families. we need to make sure our priority is that you're working families can afford to call it home one of the many ways in which we'll be addressing affordability is through housing. we've got an aggressive agenda got to create thirty thousand new housing pardon mely affordable to locate and moderate income families and we're making good progress we're opening up more homes for cities families in the first 5 months of this year there than the entire year of mifl. we know your city is an expensive place so we should bring an increase to all minimum wage yet still (clapping) yeah. but we've got to keep pace and this is what paying attention to working families is all about not about what we did yesterday although we celebrate that we have to keep the pace with rising consumer costs i know that a few more dollars an ho
