san francisco david chiu says he wants a full high-speed rail system but he agrees with the governor's approach. >> we have to make sure that the projects that we have already started get done and see where we go from there. >> reporter: jim nelson says they should just scrap the whole thing. >> i know the valley and that train will not save the economy of the valley. it would just put more billions into it. >> reporter: he says we have spent too much money to stop the project and if it isn't complete by 2022, the state will have to refund $3.5 billion to the federal government. >> with all due respect, i have no interest in setting back 3 1/2 billion dollars of federal funding that was allocated to this project to president donald trump. joke the high-speed rail authority has a habit of going way over budget so today, governor newsom says he wants to see some serious transparency and create an internet portal that the public can access that would track every taxpayer dollars spent by the authority all the way down to employee travel expenses. live in san francisco, melissa kane, kpix
