joining us now is city attorney david chiu. david, nice to have you back on the program. simple question here. are you worried about the confusion or oakland taking over some business away from sfo? >> well, first of all, let me just say that all of us in san francisco, we have a lot of affection for our sister city across the bay. but unfortunately, oakland's renaming proposal will cause immense confusion, and we're really concerned about chaos for travelers, especially for visitors who don't speak or read english. >> do you have a legal case, david, for trademark infringement here? >> absolutely. you know, unfortunately oakland's proposed name also infringes on sfo's trademarks. so sfo began operating almost a century ago in 1927, and through most of its history has used the name san francisco international airport or san francisco airport. and we've had these trademarks for so long that under federal law, they are considered incontestable. so unfortunately, oakland's proposal would be a very clear infringement on our san francisco airports trademarks. >> and, david, wo

joining us now, san francisco city attorney david chiu. david, nice to have you back on the program. just to be clear, do you want the supreme court to overturn this injunction, and how is that injunction hurting san francisco specifically? >> so san francisco, we've been under an injunction for about a year and a half based in part on this case, grants pass, that the supreme court considered today, which has really put us in an impossible situation. we have invested billions of dollars in recent years with a compassionate shelter and services first approach, where we offer shelter to individuals on the streets. but unfortunately, because of this injunction, we have been prohibited from also being able to enforce a half a dozen other laws in these contexts, which has meant that it's been difficult for us to also have the use of other tools that provide incentives for folks to take us up on our offers of shelter. >> and you're well aware of the eighth amendment, the cruel and unusual punishment here. is this cruel to fine or to penalize or t
