i am david chu. i am joined by sean elsbernd and ross mirkarimi. do we have any announcements? >> [clerk announcements] supervisor chiu: please call item 1. >> hearing on san francisco's public safety conditions, including a discussion of citywide crime levels and crime levels by police district station and or neighborhood. supervisor chiu: we are joined by the san francisco police department for a presentation. >> good morning, supervisors, i am here to report on the extraction period from july 42009 to july 10, 2010. homicides are down. rate is down 56% -- rape is down from 15 to 7. robberies are up 1.6%. aggravated assaults are also down 10%, 298 to 267. property crimes in the area of burglary, down 23%. 43 burglaries in the last extraction period, this year, 12th. burberry that from the calls, 716 to 534. arsons are down a total of 33%. i also wanted to make a note the last time i was here, supervisor chu, you requested information on our homicide rate. i am pleased to announce that as of last friday, i spoke to our homicide lieutenant. he calculated the rate for may. for 2

attorney for their help, but also i want to thank the co- sponsors of this legislation, supervisor david chu, bevan dufty, and others. i would also like to thank supervisor mirkarimi for cosponsoring this legislation. the amendment is quite simple, actually. from my understanding, the city attorney would not represent substantive amendment which would require a continuance. the three areas -- i will go through them quickly. on page one, consolidated two sections of the police code. section 122, 123. all this would do is put them into the same section with a common label. it does not change the definition, it just makes clear what the definition would be. the second part of the amendment is on page two lines 11 through 14. this is a sentence adding the board of supervisors favors community service or other services when in violation of these sections. penalties generally applied to adults. if a child or a minor is found guilty of these, the probation officer may decide to charge the parents or the youth. what we are saying here is we would like the court to consider other things, like communi

you should have in your packets an email i sent to supervisor david chu, president of the board of supervisors over the weekend. telling him that i introduced this, the idea of the bachi ball courts at a meeting of the neighborhood network last friday afternoon. with very little notice. however sh the people at the neighborhood network -- however, the people at the neighborhood network who believe in good government and good planning to a person were really excited about this project. what i said -- in one sentence, i think, in my email, said it, calming influence to have that bachi ball recreation opposite the median strip where we have this frenetic skateboarding and there's a lot of activity there. we envisioned lunch time tournaments. families, visitors, all, able to have a game there, or a match, i'm not sure. and the idea that this would be taken care of in perpetuity is a great advantage. to the city and county. the idea that people can go to the museum just across the way, the muni museum, deposit your driveras -- driver's license, get the bachi balls, is the way to handle it. it's fre

it's also important to note the supervisor david chu is also supported -- has also supported the project. the next page are some frequently asked questions that i think we've already heard and i'll zip through because these are the same questions that were asked by everyone i spoke with. first, we've talked about how much will this cost the city? it will cost the city nothing. i guarantee this parcel is already maintained by bost properties. they have already agreed to maintain it going forward and worked with park and rec partnerships to make sure that area down there is as nice as can be. they will also be responsible for the maintenance. this is a playing court. and in a minute, i'm going to bring -- but to maintain the courts and keep it up to its championship level. another question i get a lot of, is how do you play bachi? people are excited but don't know how to play so come back to the commission at a further meeting to put up some form of signage that will have a short list of etiquette so folks can know what they're doing. and figure out how to best play with their neighbors. w
