joining us now to discuss, democratic congressman david cicilline of rhode island.or of the new book "house on fire." congressman, the white house has repeatedly assured americans that president biden is steering clear of the doj investigation. so i'm wondering what you think. is the president undermining that by using this as a political talking point? >> well, i don't think the president is using it as a political talking point. i think the president has made it very clear that the department of justice will operate as an independent agency of the federal government, unlike his predecessor who saw it as his own kind of law firm. and allow them to follow the law and the evidence and make judgments consistent with their responsibilities to uphold the law. but what the president is saying that we now have republicans who are saying, if the former president is held accountable under our law, and we enforce the rule of law, and we have said for so long from the founding days of this country, no one is above the law, and if in fact the former president is held accountab

my next guest is one of, them rhode island congressman david cicilline. he joins me now.also the author of the new book, house on fire, fighting for democracy in the age of political arson. now that is a title. that's a title. good to see you. so, any minute now we're waiting on the doj to file this response to trump's request for the special master. what do you expect to learn? and you think it's going to affect this investigation? >> i expect the department is going to object to a special master and say it's unnecessary, but of the court decides to do it it might require some additional weeks. it won't change the subject substance of this case. it's a president who has taken classified documents out of the white house, taken to his personal residence, where they don't belong. he has endangered the national security of the united states, maybe of individuals who have helped collect evidence to keep us safe. this is just one more in a long list of incidents of misconduct of this president. it's why i wrote the book, to really help sound the alarm that we are facing an ext

. >> i spoke with congressman david cicilline yesterday and asked him about lena con and her approachhis lawsuit in particular, some critics have said this is such a small company, why is the ftc bothering with this? meda has said the deal would increase competition. take a listen to what the representative had to say. >> i don't think there can be any of these taken seriously. time and time again, they have been found to engage in anticompetitive behavior. >> he went on to argue how much med and facebook in particular are anticompetitive and how supportive he is of lena con's approach. what do we know about the support that she has in congress to continue? >> you will remember the house came out with a 2020 report pointing out that med alone had acquired more than 100 smaller companies and this is the only time the ftc has sued primitively to stop one of those deals. i know they might be looking at things like the bond going back and forth that meda still has regarding the instagram and whatsapp acquisitions. i think that people on -- we take that kind of approach think that the ftc
