you're watching tuesday in parliament with me, david cornock.ing" of the chancellor has been ended by a decision on how student loans should be recorded in the nation's public finances. when student loans were trebled under the coalition government, students took to the streets to protest. since then, there's been a debate over the level of fees and the loans needed to repay them. the office for national statistics says the unpaid portion of loans should be counted as government spending, so adding £12 billion to the total of national borrowing. when the issue was raised in the commons, the debate quickly widened to how students‘ education should be paid for. the shadow chief secretary said the government had been engaging this is a technical accounting decision by the ons, whose independence we support and whose diligence we commend. it's for the independent obr to decide how to reflect this decision in future forecasts. the ons decision yesterday makes the case for real reform of our higher education system more compelling. instead of tinkerin

you're watching thursday in parliament with me, david cornock.ed to do more to tackle online videos that glorify gun violence. a conservative mp criticised the sharing of so—called "drill music" videos and said the police should use their powers to ban them. there is one example of a gang who were glorifying violence, were convicted, they were banned from making any music videos and putting them online unless the police approved it. the police did approve one particular video which had absolutely shocking lyrics glorifying gun violence, and the police approved it! i mean, no wonder campaigners have their head in their hands when the police make decisions such as that one. i do feel that we have got to be a little less forgiving actually, of those who do present these very, very violent images on tv and then sort of shrug their shoulders, when we think it's having an impact on how our children view each other, their friends and how they view situations in their day—to—day lives. the minister will be aware that, for as long as anyone can remember,

you're watching wednesday in parliament with me, david cornock.iled plans for a new immigration regime for the uk after brexit. he said the future system would be based on people's skills and would bring immigration down to more sustainable levels. opposition mps called the changes a "tragedy," while others said they were left "heartbroken and depressed". we all heard the public's concerns about immigration in the run—up to the eu referendum. these were concerns held by many voters on both sides of the debate. the result of that referendum was clear. the uk will be leaving the european union on the 29th of march, 2019. this means that we can end freedom of movement so that for the first time in more than 40 years, we will be able to say who can and who cannot come into this country. the automatic preference for eu citizens will end, he said, and priority will be given to people whose skills are needed in the uk. there will be no cap on numbers and no requirement for the high skilled workers to undertake a resident labour market test. and there wil
