well, a lot of people are out there right now running in the >> david culver is live at mile 11 with a glimpse into the excitement that continues to build. david? >> reporter: hey, angie and adam. a lot of excitement. the runners are making their way down mile 11 into 12 as they make their round across. this is the beautiful and scenic portion. it is also a somber one at some parts, really further back here and not much more than half mile beyond that, these faces. identify want to show you these faces. the faces of the fallen. this is the wear blue section of the race. it is to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. you can see on so many faces of all those that have lost their lives this year alone. it is a point in the race where they need motivation and inspiration and that is what you get as you walk past, run past those faces and take it in. we caught up with martha andre goya. they're parents of corporate mark gochla. he lost his life in the line of duty in 2011. i want to hear what they had to say about why it was so important for them to be out here. >> we were just

david culver joining us live from mile 11. david, runners are inching closer towards you by the second. i see some in the background. >> angie and adam. they have made their way runners coming around hanes point. that is mile 11 into mile 12. they're going to a food station, picking up on energy boosters and making their way around to the hydration station getting gatorade water and continuing along. i want to show you what is behind us. what the runners are coming from and that is the wear blue essential section. you can look at some of the video. we walked by there a short time ago. there are 300 flags held by volunteers. they're as the military families. it is a moving part. you have to think. this is the midway point of the race. this is the place where you're 11 miles in. you have nor go. about halfway there and you need tho that motivation. you need the inspiration and they run through this section here. this run to remember, and you see the flags, the flags have the name of some of the fallen. you also see faces. it is

virginia, cross the key bridge at our four mile cheering mark, go over to hanes point where we saw david culver around the monument. this is the memorial monuments marathon if you will, the people's marathon. it is the largest of its kind in the country where there is no prize money and drives people from all over the country, indeed, all over the with a new york racer for the men, a woman from costa rica for the woman. the 10k is starting about an hour later. 8:55, because of all of the metro safetrack concerns this morning. metro was late out of the gate. they did not open earlier as they usually do. this is just a sea of runners. i have never seen it this packed even though the numbers this year are lower because of metro, but the colors are amazing, a spectacular sunrise this morning and everybody is loving the weather right now. maybe an hour from now it may be too warm for them. but there are ten hydration stations along the way and they are definitely going to have to stay hydrated throughout this marathon this year. what a sight with all of the flags. colors so their families can find t
