pascrell of new jersey, chairman of the house ways and means subcommittee on oversight, and david farenthold, reporter for "the washington post" and msnbc contributor. welcome to you guys. thanks for joining me on a saturday afternoon. congressman, i want to start with you on this one and ask you to expand on your initial reaction, which is -- which i read was it is about -- time. >>that's what i think. i think we waited four-and-a-half years long enough, yasmin. i started this on february 2017, a month after the president was sworn into office, and i started then and they've managed to defeat when we were the minority 18 of the resolutions i put forth in order that there be a thorough, reasonable examination of the tax returns of the president of the united states like every president since nixon. so i thought it was a reasonable ask. in fact, i went to the republicans, mr. brady who was the chairman of the ways and means at that time, and asked him if he would like to do it with me so it was non-partisan, get a lot of the nonsense out of way and he laughed at me. that's exactly what he did

let's bring in david farenthold, a reporter for "the new york post" who coffers former president trump's businesses i should say "washington post." apologize. david, based on the indictment today, what's your understanding of how this alleged scheme was conducted? what evidence did the prosecutors present? >> well, the prosecutors have some pretty compelling evidence. they say they do basically, they say there were two sets of books in the trump organization in one set of books just for their internal use, they kept track of all the payments they gave to their executives the cash payments, the regular salary but also noncash things like a free apartment or a free car, even furniture, flat screen tvs, carpet. they kept track of that stuff. if we gave you $100,000 in noncash compensation, we're going subtract that from the amount we're giving you in cash so your salary stays the same. they treated that as compensation but then the other set of books is what they showed to taxing authorities allegedly, and it did not show any of that other stuff beyond just a regular salary didn't show the

joining me is the reporter behind those new allegations, david farenthold. he's done extensive reporting on the trump family and its businesses. david, good to see you again. tell me about this charging of the secret service for accommodation at mar-a-lago and donald trump's golf courses. what are the other options? what are the ways in which donald trump can get the security to which he is entitled without this consistently being another big bill for taxpayers? >> well, he could just give us to us for free, the taxpayers. so the secret service is supposed to go wherever its protectees go. since trump sent all of his time within the walls of his own golf courses or his own clubs, that means they have to be inside those walls too. trump controls that space. he could give them any space he wanted for free, let them put up a tent or trailer for free but he's chosen to charge them. at mar-a-lago he was charging them $400 a night for a room after he left office. at bedminster he's charging $567 for a cottage the secret service uses. trump can charge whatever he wa

today david farenthold reporting that he's been removed as a trustee.s in a row to defend oneself? >> i don't think it's a big deal either in the following sense, nicolle. removing him from his fiduciary duties in the trump organization i think is obligatory in some instances. let's say a property has a liquor license, an alcohol license. they're regulated by the state in which they operate. somebody who is under indictment really cannot be the fiduciary for that company in that jurisdiction. and so it makes sense to me if you're a bank dealing with a trump organization or a state liquor board dealing with a trump organization or some other company dealing with the trump organization, you probably would prefer not to be dealing with a fiduciary of that company who's under indictment. so it strikes me as a wise get your house in order move by the trump organization to take -- to take weisselberg sort of out of that position. it's logical, it's sensible. i'm not the least bit surprised by it. >> so harry litman -- >> on a quick related point. >> let me ju
