david frum has been waiting here. in the "atlantic" this week you wrote an article urging more caution. you said iraq isn't ours to save. how is this fight different than the one that played out in 2003, particularly in terms of the gop reaction you're seeing? >> this fight is different because this time, the government in baghdad is an iranian proxy government. that's who al maliki is a client of. he's not -- he doesn't do everything, they say, but he's highly dependent on iranian influence. and iran is the country that is most alarmed by this sudden collapse of the official iraqi forces. they've been very active in meddling internal iraqi politics. they've largely gotten their way in the past couple of years. and any american initiative at this point to save maliki would be to advance an iranian strategic interest. and what is really remarkable to me and very disturbing is to watch this administration asking iran for permission to -- and even contemplating perhaps the iranians say, making other kinds of concessions

howard dean and david frum, former economic speechwriter for president george w. bush and the founder of frumforum.com. governor dean, this is an insider fight that has a lot more outsider pressure. what do you make of it for the republican party and what face they put out will affect what the democrats do in the midterms? >> i think there is a battle going on inside the republican party. it's between those who want to win national elections and those who don't care. and those who want to make a statement. i think mr. brat was somebody who wants to make a statement. i doubt very much he would vote for anything that even looked like a compromise with the president. and i think the republicans, mccarthy, cantor, boehner, are people who have been in washington for a while and they actually would like to change the views of the -- some of the republican party, the tea party people, because they know they can't win national elections unless they do. >> yeah, david what do you think about this? i don't know if you're a big "game of thrones" fan. they had the finale last

. >> host: david frum atlantic beach florida. good morning. >> caller: good morning. first-time caller, first time i tried. >> host: welcome. we are glad to hear from you. >> caller: i have a comment for mr. doniger and i have a question for mr. bailey. mr. doniger i think you really minimize the problem when you just call it pollution. i work for an industrial cleaning company back in 2000 i used to work at one of these, several of these coal power plants doing clean outs. what we did was we cleaned out the filters that were before the stacks before it gets blown out in what is left is the residual dust that is left behind. i would clean the inside of these things and what you should do is get an msds which is a materials safety data sheet and show the cancer-causing agents that are being blown out from these plans. just to say that it's pollution is an understatement by far. and what i have to say that mr. bailey, we follow your train of thought and we stay with fossil fuels, how long before costs go down? >> host: we will get a response first from david doniger. >>
