>> david hawkings is the senior editor of "roll call" what i'm hearing from young people over the lasteek is doesn't it make common sense to keep guns out of the hands of people on a no-fly terror list or a -- you know, a terror suspect list? and also, assault weapons as well? so where does congress find the rationale to oppose that? >> they're not going to vote on the assault weapon ban. the senate is going to have four votes on monday evening, two on republican proposals, one each on expanding background checks and on tightening the watch list to make it more difficult for suspected terrorists on the watch list. one democrat and one republican proposal. assault weapon is off the table. the nra is so emphatically opposed to any change in the regulation of assault weapons that that's not even being considered. the only question is this watch list issue and the background check issue. and republicans say they're open somewhat to some controls. >> but everything i read says that it will never pass. >> and i suppose the question is why? >> well, why? because in today's congress and today'
