david johnson joined blackstone from dell last february.nteresting he is working on the bid. they waived sort of noncompete clause that was on his contract so he can work on this. so that is one reason why they think this thing is management-friendly. why blackstone does have a shot because of a former dell executive would obviously be part of the management team. that is one thing we learned. second thing we learned, you talk to people at blackstone, they really think they are not in the driver's seat on this they think their odds are less than 50/to sort of win this thing. they still think that silverlake will prevail, silverlake and dell and michael dell the combined bid for obvious reasons. they have to go through due diligence. silverlake and dell spent a lot of time coming up with $13.50 offer. theirs is 14.25. they think silverlake and dell in the end will prevail. they're in there and they're serious but still they have a leg up. they have been talking to investors. they have a fairly compelling deal on the table considering the fac

david: shares of johnson controls rallied today.icole petallides o on the floor the new york stock exchange, why the rally? nicole: talk about auto parts and the like, are they selling, today retained jpmorgan to help them with this or not? this is one of the reasons why we saw this stock jump in this fashion move into this annual high they had retained jpmorgan in order to sell their automotive segment. there was a pr wire that came out afterwards they actually disputed that fact and noted they issued this statement, contrary to a wire service story released earlier today, johnson controls did not retain jpmorgan. and it has no current intention to divest the segment which basically says we are not selling. so i don't know why you would think we are selling or why we got jpmorgan to do this. is it happening and are they just outright saying no, no way, no how, forget it? is it something we will continue to follow tomorrow as the news really becomes solidified, but johnson controls has made it abundantly clear it is all false. david

. >>> now let's turn to david k. johnson, pulitzer prize-winning journalist and peter maurici from the university of maryland. gentlemen, good to have you with us. peter, you first. can we admit tax increases did not kill jobs at this point? >> no, i don't think so. i have a burden of having a degree in economics. i'll tell you this. if you -- i understand it doesn't count for much here. >> yes, it does. it does, but, i mean come on now. we've added jobs when we have raised taxes on the wealthiest americans. >> simply added less jobs is like jobs -- if you raise taxes, you take money out of people's pockets that they could spend. if you cut spending, you reduce spending. so either way, whether you reduce spending or you raise taxes you'll have a negative impact on the economy. i find it very amusing, though, that some of these estimates, the cbo says that sequester will result this year in about $42 billion in less spending. essentially, that's about -- the multiplier effects and all the roll-in is about a half a percentage

david sowerby, rick johnson, rick santelli, and paulal salcari is with us as well. bob, those were some impressive numbers. the question that some people are asking is does that green light further significant moves from here, because there's so much skepticism about the market as bill mentioned, or do we get that long-awaited pullback now that we've achieved historic highs? >> you get both. but longer term, it's still, stocks are still going to be the asset class to beat. and i heard bill and bob both talk about small cap stocks. off the november 15th lows, large cap stocks are up 17%, small cap stocks are up 24%. in 4 1/2 months, that's a two-year move in small cap stocks. we're going to get a 10% correction, at least a 5% correction. we had a couple of them last year. if you get that, be an opportunistic buyer. because stocks, i still think, are the asset class that institutional retail investors are going to rebalance to. especially when i look at the end of the first quarter and you see that stocks up 10%, but my bond funds are down 1%. that's going to be a sta

david: peter, take a stock that has a terrific run-up, for example. johnson & johnson, for god, like three or four years was stuck at a level between 60 and $63 a share. it is now trading at $81 a share. actually 81.53 to be exact and they give that terrific dividend. over 3% right now. have we missed that run-up? having missed that run-up do we wait until there is a pullback there or even at 81.50 do we go in for it? >> i think if you have a two or three-year time horizon going into it now is not problematic. if you want a higher price in six months, you know may not happen. but it's trading at a market multiple and has, as you said a 3% yield. i would, you know, has potential for new products. it has the potential to split up into several companies, a la abbott. if you have a two or three-year time horizon i still think it is a good stock to purchase here. liz: those names along with john's names. john's names, general electric and unitedhealthcare, picking two dow components here. unitedhealthcare had a good day yesterday. they had a good month and good qu

david: look at all this in detail. we have the market panel. alan lantz, and craig johnsonirector of piper jaffray technical research group. craig, i want to go to you first. you were a big bull. s&p at 1700. even go out to 2014 to talk about a 2000 s&p. however, this week you seemed to err on the side of caution suggesting we could be in the drop phase of a hop, drop and pop where there may be a pullback of five to 10%. so, when do you see that pullback coming? >> well, david, that's a great observation, yes. we have been bullish on the market since august. i think we're among the earliest to be bullish on this market. we reached our price objective the first objective we were looking for is 1550 on the s&p 500. we're not sure we can really push through this major overhead resistance level without getting some sort of a setback, the drop we talked about. this drop we would think would be in the kind of five to 10% range and really allow the market to pull back, gather some strength and probably pull back and retest the 200 day moving average or uptrend support line off the
