it was just the beginning, david jolly. >> yeah, that's a very fair opinion. what republican legislatures are doing is giving additional tools to republicans for future elections to try to undermine the results. we can look at these new state laws being implemented in georgia, florida, texas and elsewhere through two lens, yasmin. one is the traditional voter suppression. we know they are making it harder to vote and likely having a disparate impact for communities of color and democratic-leaning voters. but the other lens through which we can look at this is the fact that they are taking away kind of the fair arbitration of elections from nonpartisan, objective decision-makers, traditionally secretaries of state or division of elections. we're seeing that in georgia. and last night in the bill that passed through the texas senate, it actually says if sufficient number of fraudulent ballots are discovered, those ballots don't have to be opened to see who they voted for. if there's enough that covers the margin between the winner and the loser, a judge can void

david jolly, i'll start with you because i started with florida.r problem with having to have an i.d.? and i said, this is not about me and my problems, but what is your interest in solving something that isn't a problem in the country? i mean, how do you get at the idiocy of laws just in search of problems that don't exist? >> that's exactly the way to frame it. nicole, public policy can often be devoid of critical thinking and the new florida voting law is a perfect example of that. ron desantis, the day after the election, said the florida election results should inspire confidence, that they should be a model for other states. he lauded the performance of florida election integrity. but as the big lie seeped in, it also seeped into the republican political narrative, and so naturally, you had a republican-led legislature in tallahassee have to carry on the notion of the big lie. and so they implemented a new vote or what they call voter integrity bill, very much like the state of georgia and other states as well. the bottom line, though, is as

joining me now is juanita tolliver, democratic strategist and msnbc political analyst, and david jollyibutor. let me go to you first, david. republicans in your home state of florida are on the cusp of enacting a voter suppression bill worse than georgia's. what can floridians do to ensure their rights are protected? is there anything the rest of us can do to support them? >> yeah, rev. i think much like the state of georgia and other jurisdictions, the florida law is headed straight to a federal court. advocates organizations will challenge it, that it makes it harder to vote, not easier, and it has a disparate impact on communities of color. you hear this notion of voter integrity. in the state of florida our governor said, hey, we have no problems. this is one of the best elections we ever had. but the politics of the gop got into this legislative session and they decided to pass a georgia law. the bottom line is is it easier to vote in florida today? and the answer is no. and that's bad news for florida voters. >> well, i think that that speaks to, again, a solution looking for a p
