joining us now, former republican congressman, david jolly, and tara palmieri.ith you. were republicans surprised by pelosi's decision? >> absolutely. this is unprecedented to remove members from a committee. again, january 6th was unprecedented as nancy pelosi said. but this does sort of open the doors for future say speaker mccarthy or speaker scalise to remove democratic members from oversight committees. this isn't exactly nancy pelosi's favorite use of power to do oversight. she really prefers pocketbook issues because she believes that's what voters care about. now this has become an even igly and more partisan issue because kevin mccarthy has threatened to pull all of his members off the committee and he'll spin it as a partisan attack against the former president. so i think she's opened the door for an uglier fight. >> david, this is ugly and it didn't have to be this way. republicans had the option of a bipartisan independent commission. they voted against this. this in multiple ways is a disaster of their own making. >> yeah, it is. and understand, na

democratic strategist and founder of the national voter protection action fund, susan del percio, and david jollyther he's going to run in 2024. he didn't exactly say which way he was leaning but did allude to the country needing him to re-engage. could the potential legal troubles throw a wrench in that? >> no, unless donald trump is in jail, he will be running for president. it's my belief. of course i'm not a republican insider and certainly not a trump insider. i think there are a couple of things going on here. as susan and david pointed out he needs to continue to keep his name in the public eye. and so to pay for this extraordinary amount of legal jeopardy that he's in. he needs to keep raising money. number two, nobody can beat him. he certainly might continue to try to appear in republican circles as an outlier and other republicans may try painting him where they do not see the future of the party and a place they don't want to go, but nobody else has the numbers to beat him. and i think that reasonable candidates like the former governor of south carolina might not step up to the plate

former democratic congresswoman, and former representative david jolly. he is also an msnbc political analyst. it's who's who of florida. dr. ashby, i want to start with you. it hits a record for daily cases. i am not in florida, but that is incredibly alarming for me. can you talk me through what that looks like on the ground? >> alarming is an understatement. where do i start? we are number one in hospitalizations in the u.s. we are number two in hospitalizations among children in the u.s. we're number one in broward county for critical care in the u.s. and now we have broke our several-day record at 21,683 infections with the positivity rate above 50%. all told, florida is surging and our leadership is not helping us at all. our hospitals are getting overwhelmed. we're starting to shut down elective cases as a result of that, and that impacts other issues like heart disease, cancer, colon cancer, and so on and so forth. so right now we are struggling to deal with the surge, and we have zero leadership from our government, and they're legitimately putti
