i want to bring in former republican congressman from florida david jolly.ha, donald trump already is fund-raising off of president biden's comments. he's comparing it to hillary clinton's basket of deplorables remark. what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, we already have seen fund-raising emails, his allies, his campaign staff, his running mate, they are all over this. look, the campaign really sees this as a gift, given that for about 48 hours there, they were in major cleanup mode after that comic's racist jokes at the madison square garden rally. in fact, the comments from president biden came during an event in allentown, pennsylvania, where the trump campaign invited puerto rican supporters, they invited florida senator marco rubio to try to rally latino support, puerto rican support. this is a demographic they have been targeting for quite some time, so this comic's comments were terrible timing and is not what the campaign wanted. and then they got this gift from president biden and he tried to clean up those comments, but the trump campaign has b

. >> david jolly is a congressman in florida and they both joined me. it is interesting that with donald trump, it has always been an issue of where you attack him. there is a lot to say. in some ways there is so much to say it overwhelms the idea of unfitness, i can't tell if that is an argument or a way of -- what do you think of that. >> i think you have seen that the democratic party and the harris campaign sees it is an argument that can persuade voters to not vote for him. maybe stay home or more importantly vote for vice president harris because they put out a campaign ad today, calling him unfit and unstable. light is such strategic and smart for vice president harris and the campaign, every time she hits him about doing unstable or weak or unfit for office, it chips away at his bravado style of politics and he can't actually campaign on issues. he is flailing and completely going off the rails. trying to push back on these allegations that the more he plays into them, the worse he looks which helps democrat. it is a strong campaign strategy in

ahead of that, former congressman david jolly and akayla gardener, good to see you both. >>> meantime investigation is under way after a security incident near trump's coachella rally this weekend. involving a man arrested with firearms in his vehicle, who was stopped at a checkpoint just about a quarter-mile from the event stage. the man has been booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a type of large capacity magazine outlawed in california. a federal law enforcement source tells nbc news this matter's not being considered an assassination attempt. nbc news homeland security correspondent juliaanesly is here with more on this reporting. what are you learning about this arrest? >> it's really a sign of the political climate that we're in right now that this arrest even got as much attention as it did. that federal law enforcement official, someone i spoke to, wouldn't normally talk to reporters about someone being stopped with firearms in their car near a rally. but they wanted to get out because some of the local law enforcement were calling this a third a

. >> returning to our conversation, tim miller is here, plus david jolly is here.miller, your thoughts. >> i'm glad that president obama is out there doing that. i think for a number of reasons, we have been talking about how democrats need to speak on these podcasts. there are younger men listening to them. there's more even of a battle space there. i just think on the issue of immigration, it's like the issue of guns. democrats have been bit by this. they are afraid to go on offense. while they have vulnerabilities, on immigration, it's framed as the former president framed that where we are going to have mass deportations, put somebody as incompetent as donald trump in charge of a government program with rogue sheriffs that are going in and grabbing people out and getting some criminals but also people that are here legally and brothers of people here legally. a lot of stories from the first trump administration that shocked the conscience of the nation. that included republicans, people that want a secure border. i think going on offense on that issue is smart.
