david novarro. >> and i'm shirleen allicot. we begin this half hour with the death of a young long island. >> dejah joyner's classmates returned to school for the first time since her death. the 12-year-old died over the weekend when a stray bullet killed her. this afternoon grief counselors are there to help students through the day. eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson in hempstead with more. >> reporter: as you can imagine, a really tough day for everyone here at hempstead middle school. dejah was a 7th grader. she was at school on friday like all of her friends, went home for the weekend. no one imagined the 12-year-old of course this is all very upsetting and confusing to these kids. one way they're working through their pain expressing their loss is with messages to dejah. the kids are working on a huge pink banner. a beautiful memorial to an incredible little girl who was a girl scout. she loved to dance, she loved to sing. the district has mobilized its crisis intervention team to meet and talk with students not only here but at the high school where dejah's brother plays football. here at the middle school, th
