joining me with more is david wessel, economic editor of and david kelly. gentlemen, nice to have you on the program. welcome. >> glad to be here. >> thank you. >> let's start with the still developing story in egypt. david kelly, the market seemed to be shrugging off what is happening in egypt, and the global uncertainty. what do you think the impact of the egyptian developments have on investing? >> i think what has happened is egypt has occurred at a time when the fundamentals for the u.s. stock market were really improving very dramatically. all signs are the economy strengthening here. we're also seeing lot of individual investors finally moving bonds out of equity funds. so i think strong tied, i think the markets have been able to deal with a certain amount of uncertainty coming out of egypt. >> the military clearly in control at this point in egypt do. you want to be avoiding some of the emerging markets or the middle east, egypt in -- as a result of what has again on, do you think? >> obviously you should be a little bittner vows about egypt. but w

kelly o'donnell with that perspective. thank you. it's 7:17. here's meredith. >> ann, thank you. david gregory is moderator of "meet the press." good morning. >> good morning. >> it's been a rough week for republicans to say the least beside the resignation of congressman lee they have seen several bills defeated in the house where they now hold a majority. how big of a setback is this for the party and how do they get back on solid ground? >> the roughest part is they made a promise in the course of the election to cut $100 billion of nondiscretionary spending, a part of the budget that's away from the big four like defense spending and medicare and social security. then they came in and said, well, we are not going to keep that pledge. there were a lot of reasons why, none of which were flying with the members. a lot of freshmen republicans said, we made a promise. we have to keep the promise. they have had to adjust and deal with the controversy like this. it shows you that they have a lot more cohesion on the campaign trail and in the minority than in the majority. >> what do they do going forward? >> they have gone back.
