. >> susie: joining us now for more analysis of today's market action, david kelly, chief market strategist for j.p. morgan funds. hi, david. >> hi. >> susie: so the big question for many investors today was that, is the u.s. economy heading for another recession. what do you think? >> no, i don't think so. it is clearly slowing down, i mean these were very bad vehicle sales numbers. we got a weak employment report, also a weak report from the i. s. m. index on manufacturing. looks like the u.s. economy is only growing about a 2% pace right now and that's not enough to create a lot of jobs. i think the key thing people need to realize is that it's more likely this economy will sort of trouble along and then pick up speed than it will collapse. because when you have a recession, what happens is something goes from boom to bust, and there's nothing booming in this economy. it very hard for something to collapse when it's already in the basement. you look at vehicle sales or housing starts or business unveners to, they are all very low now, so we don't expect them to move down. we think they w

kelly mention charlie rangel. i know in a couple other pieces people have brought up david vitter and how he managed to survive his own sex scandal after the madam came out and said he had been with prostitutes. how does anthony wiener survive this one? >> i think there's a couple factors at play. first and foremost, how do his constituents feel about him? it's a safe democrat district. do the constituents stay with you? secondly, what is going to happen on the legal end? obviously, additional facts or at least reputed facts are coming out on an almost hour by hour basis. does that potentially create additional legal exposure, particularly with the age of women, does it create deeper ethical issues? thirdly, how will the republicans handle a potential ethics inquiry? do they want a head on a stake or will they approach this a different way. i think lastly, and i think kelly was getting at this which is what type of pressure do the other democratic members in the house put on him? that ultimately be the driving factor in all of this. certainly you look around and today you have david vitter in the senate. you obvio

david clemmons has the latest step on her road to recovery.xd >> congresswoman gabrielle giffords took another important step in her stunning recovery with her weekend trip home to tucson. her husband, ast out in mark kellystatement saying "gabby misses tucson very much and her doctors have said that returning to her hometown could play an important role in her recovery. it is sure to be very emotion." the trip means just as much to supporters in giffords district. susan heilman was one of the 19 people wounded in the shooting. >> gabby wants to do better and certainly we want her back. >> the milestone came sooner than anyone predicted. her staff hoped she'd be out of the hospital early july. she was discharged last week to be home with kelly. >> it's great for her to be out of the hospital. >> reporter: on sunday she resumed her outpatient treatment where she's been struggling to learn how to relearn to speak and walk. >> a lot of medicine is outside of our control. we're wise to acknowledge miracles. >> reporter: giffords' trip was kept private with no public appearances or interviews a simple weekend with loved ones on a long road to recovery. priya david clemmons cbs news san francisco. >> and now h
