david kelly is jpmorgan's chief global strategist. a lot of people woke up on friday morning expecting that britain would stay in the eu, because that's what conventional wisdom and the markets told them. they got a very different market reaction. what do you do if you're thinking about retirement or the average person thinking, holy cow, what's happening to my savings? >> don't overreact. you're right, the markets have priced in the idea that britain would remain part of the european union. i'm not sure why the markets were convinced about that but they were. you had two emotional reactions on friday morning. first of all, you had shock because a lot of people, expected it to go the other way, and disappointment. and markets, of course, feed off of emotion. you see a big global selloff in stocks because of this. but to be honest, you've got to look at, particularly if you're a u.s. investor, look at it with a long-term perspective, does this really change the outlook for american companies and global companies? it's a big problem for

. >>> for more on the fallout from brexit, we'll bring in joe and david kelly. gentlemen, we'll talk about what the market is prepared for and geared up for. this morning, david, we're looking at the futures sharply higher 185 points for the dow. that's on the idea that a remain vote is more likely. what -- where are we -- which has the biggest position to lose? what is the surprise position? >> the first thing is, it's too close to call, 44/44, i'm sorry, i'm not going to make a bet on it. the second thing is, if they vote to stay, then what we've got is uncertainty coming down on status quo. that's got to be good for risk assets overall because it's net positive with less uncertainty. if they vote to leave, it is really hard to know how markets will react because there's been so much negative pressure on sterling and global markets. maybe it's not as big a deal for the global economy as people like janet yellen seem to fear. >> you're thinking that if they -- if the vote is to stay, that markets potentially rally. if the vote is to leave, the markets may stay c

kelly. we're joined by david smith, washington correspondent for "the guardian." david, the last couple of weeks as kelly was just saying, people were getting the sensation the polls were delivering the impression that there was movement toward staying in the european union. what do you think was behind what became these misleading polls? and this last couple of weeks of ramping up into this vote? >> it was always difficult to call. and you're right, polls did seem to show a momentum for remain. but then there were a few days where the leave campaign picked up as well and that caused some pan and i can some extra campaigning. and, you know, the last general election, the polls were quite misleading and got it wrong. so it's yet another example as we've seen in several elections now where questions will have to be asked about polling methods and just how reliable they are. but they did always make clear that it was going to be very close. >> and david, walk us through what you think happens politically in london starting within the hour, possibly. >> i think david
