david lee miller is live in our new york newsroom with the latest details on this case. david. >> reporter: eric, the 44-year-old's court appearance was brief, lasted only ability ten minutes. his hands remained shackled. his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his to two charges of providing material support to isis, a terrorist organization. his attorney also asked the judge for a competency exam, prosecutors did not object, and the judge said he will sign the order when it is submitted. prosecutors say naji was planning what would have been his third trip overseas to join isis when he was arrested last month by authorities. his previous efforts to join the group were a bust. in october of 2012 he planned a three month stay overseas, but that trip last ared only a day because of a gallbladder attack. he tried again last year to make it to syria, but he only got so far as turkey and yemen. prosecutors say naji sent out more than 7,000 tweets espousing the virtues of isis. some contained graphic images of prisoner executions. in one of those tweets he swore allegiance
