david lee miller has the story for us. it is very serious. how are leaders in the military reacting to all this? how are they reacting? >> reporter: the marine corps saying not so fast to change the time-honored tradition. a study by the university of pittsburgh commissioned by the marines on gender integrated recruit training recommends doing away with sir or ma'am, recruits address drill instructors, the policies and going to change overnight if at all. when asked about the report released in june, the marines have adopted or taken action on some recommendations but as of now have not changed how recruits address instructors. a portion of the statement from the marine corps spokesman, the marine corps recruits continue to address drill instructors as sir or ma'am in adherence with current marine corps regulations and customs and courtesies, no changes will be made to time-tested methods without cigna for can scrutiny and feedback from marine corps leadership. the chief of staff raised concern about the reports and recommendations telling th
