for some insight, we turn to national security correspondent david martin and our chief foreign affairs correspondent lara logan. lara, at first to you. in mandy's story we saw the 101st trying to head off the enemy from pakistan. what's the bigger picture on the taliban spring offensive? >> that it's been smart and effective so far, scott. what they've done is expands their battlefield from the traditional battlegrounds of kandahar in the south, helmand, areas like that, the east, to president north. and also to the normally peaceful west. they've also penetrated the highest command of nato's command structure. they badly wounded nato's top commander for the north of the country and they've made this the bloodiest start of any year in the war so far for u.s. troops. and this is just the beginning of the fighting season. the worst months are yet to come. >> pelley: the president had an important meeting today with his national security team. what have you learned about that? >> we were told by the white house that the focus of that meeting, much of the discussions centered on the u.s. relationship with pakistan
