hey, david. >> hey, carl yeah, chris, as we do every year we sat down with john malone earlier today, err interview it typically goes at least an hour, we try to cover so many different things and make that available to everybody at cnbc.com. we spent a lot of time talking about the changing landscape of the way programming is distributed, the way it's produced and what that means for the existing players and for the newer entrants we have seen over the number of last year. one name we came to as well and something that you, carl and jim and i have talked about a lot is vie come cbs the deal will close in the not too distant future putting these two companies back together. jim has often commented on how cheap it is and how he regrets owning it in his charitable trust. we did talk to malone about that as well and i asked him he thinks that company given it is certainly still dependent on linear cable networks for much of its livelihood and potentially as an arm supply of content to so many of the streaming services whether malone thinks it's well positioned right now. >> i think it's

chances geps the likes of disney plus and netflix and the streaming wars and earlier today, john malone told david faber that hbo max could struggle to reel in subscribers. >> i really have trouble seeing hbo being able to get the scale to be at the top of the chart in terms of direct consumer subscribers. >> all right, malone also said hbo doesn't have the budget to defend and product its content supply those are some harsh r words from a guy who knows media pretty well. >> r for me when they came out with their price, 14.99 a month, that's right there when everybody else is going down 6.99, 4.99 then they come out with 14.99, that does not speak well they need the money. >> malone is one of the best business minds in h the world. i look forward to david's interview with him every year. what he said is remember when at&t bought hbo, they were king of the hill. their budget of $2 billion was giant. they had monopoly on the best producers and writers and now that's gone and the ability to keep funding that to keep up with netflix, disney, all the other streaming sss is really going to be tough. not
