. >> martha: let's break that down, that discussion that the president had with david muir.doesn't need f-16s now. why not? >> the military leaders in the department of defense have worked lock step with the ukrainians every single day about what their requirementses and capabilities are. what we're focussed on are the things that they'll need in the weeks and months ahead as the weather gets better. that's armor, air defense, artillery. it's important to remember -- we haven't talked about this in a long time. we did in the weeks and months of the war. the russians have never achieved anything even coming close to air superiority in the skies over ukraine. because so much work has been done to improve ukrainian air defense capabilities. if and when they fly in ukrainian airspace, it's for short periods of time to launch their missiles and they get out. they're not flying over the case. that's a testament to the air defense capabilities that we provided them. there's just not a crucial need right now for fighter aircraft. in fact, ukrainians aren't using their fighter aircra
