i want to bring in nbc's david noriega who is outside the courthouse in los angeles. so they've had a little time to talk amongst themselves. what are we learning about what's being said inside that courtroom right now? >> yeah, chris, so just literally seconds ago we heard from folks inside the courtroom that special counsel leo wise for the justice department is strenuously opposing hunter biden's attempt to enter an alford plea. just to recap, an alford plea is one where hunter biden admits a conviction, a sentence in court. he would likely be convicted of the alleged crimes but does not factually admit wrong doing according to the facts of the indictment. here's what special counsel had to say about that. i want to make it crystal clear the u.s. opposes an alford plea. hunter biden is not innocent. hunter biden is guilty. we did speak briefly with the defense. it's not clear what they are attempting to do. the government is not prepared to agree or not agree to this today, that if there is to be some kind of plea, they need more time to consider it, and more time

we go to david noriega in las vegas where the president holds a rally tonight. she may have some work to do with latino voters. what we expect to hear from the vice president tonight? >> that's right alex. a new blown bloomberg poll has harris ahead of trump by seven points. this is the first battleground state where we see harris pull ahead in what is otherwise a neck and neck race. what we expected the convention center here in las vegas as we expect her to hammer home her economic package and plans for reducing costs for ordinary americans. it is huge in las vegas where they part of the electric in attendance tonight is low wage workers in the service industry . it is precisely the demographic that donald trump has been able to appeal to with his message. a similar story with latino voters around the country. i knew poll out from cnbc of hispanic voters that shows what you were just talking about with the 14 point lead over trump in the demographic. 14 points but it is generally shrinking from each of the last cycles. it actually threatens to reach the last h

david noriega is in santa maria. david, witnesses saying deputies pinned down the suspect? >> reporter: that's right, tom, and right behind me is the courthouse where it happened. authorities say that local man identified as 20-year-old nathaniel mcguire walked into the courthouse shortly after the court opened for business and threw a bag containing an improvised explosive device at the security checkpoint at the entrance to the courthouse. authorities say that mcguire had been arrested on a gun charge in july and was set to be arraigned here in court this morning. they believe his motive for this attack was in retaliation for that arrest and described this as a local man with a local grievance. that said, tom, the fbi did open a federal investigation into this case, although they say there is no reason to believe mr. mcguire has any connections to organized terrorist activity. tom. >> yes, still a lot of questions tonight. all right, david, we thank you for that. >>> we turn overseas now to the escalating war in the middle east. hezbollah targeting tel aviv with a missile

joining us now, steve kornacki along with national correspondent david noriega in clark county, nevadabers. >> that's why this is important here. harris is ahead by 14 points over trump among latino voters. the big question coming out of 2020, remember, trump in 2020 improved somewhat among latino voters. was that a one-time thing or a trend? i think this is what the trend looks like. it is something. look at this, in 2020, joe biden -- from the exit polls -- beat donald trump by 33 points by latino voters. now look at it four years later. look where the 14 fits in with the other recent elections. tighter than we are used to see. latino voters, fast growing. in one in six voters are going to be latino. we see a gender gap. we see it with hispanic voters. this is tied among men. women, harris with a 26 point advantage. we see an age gap. under 50, this race is almost dead even. harris by three points over trump. over 50, that's where harris -- the heart of her support. 30-point advantage there. how about the issues? we asked issues and characteristics, traits. which candidate, trump or

reporters and analysts in place covering all the new development and we will start with nbc's david noriega in las vegas with the vice president holding her rally tonight and the new poll we showed, it shows that harris may have some work to do with latino voters. how is she planning on targeting that key voting group? >> yeah, definitely, first to break down the pole a little bit. this is a new poll of latino voters, the more interesting data point is how the lead has been shrinking for democrats over the course of the last several presidential election cycles, so they are losing ground, the latino support for democrats is eroding. now, another thing that the poll showed was that far and away the most important thing for hispanic voters are pocketbook issues, jobs and the economy and top of the list, inflation and the cost of living. other issues like threats to democrats -- democracy and, in terms of how the harris campaign will reach the voters, it's trying to reach them on that message specifically. even this rally is a good example, we were just inside the convention center space and i

joining us now is david noriega and katie phang is back with us. david what do we know about this?just getting information literally by the second. it was just announced by hunter biden's counsel that he's going to enter a plea, to except a guilty verdict, but maintaining his innocence, actually speaking to the allegations against him. now the judge in this case was a trump appointee in the central district of california does not have to accept that outward plea. it's unclear how this is moving forward. what was supposed to happen, the trial was supposed to begin on monday, in court that we just heard a few minutes ago. hunter biden's counsel said there's no need to proceed with the jury selection because he's going to change his plea. we're excepting this alfred plea as i explained because it's up in the air. the court will resume at 11:00 local, at that point, we'll have a little more information on what's going to happen moving forward. jose. >> david, thank you very much. katie, let's talk about this, again, this is just breaking right now. expected to change his plea. >> yes.

let's get to it with david noriega. latest. >> reporter: yeah, so this is a tense and very uncertain moment in this case, we're in a situation where the conclusion of this case could change from one moment to the next, so basically here's the latest, as you said this morning hunter biden in a surprising and dramatic move that surprised everyone tried to change his plea to a guilty plea, a special guilty plea in which he admits the possibility or the probability that he would be convicted based on the available everyday but does not factually admit wrongdoing. that's why special counsel representing the prosecution is so strenuously opposed to such a guilty plea, he says hunter biden is guilty. that's why he's refusing to accept this on its face. it's up to the judge and the judge is saying that both sides need to present their best arguments. hunter biden's legal team is urging them to make a decision on this today. the government on the other hand the prosecution is saying they were again taken by surprise and they nee

david noriega has tracking this poll.if been speaking with some of the voters there, what are the top issues on their mind heading into november? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, guys, i've been in las vegas on the east, predominantly latino part of the city. a few things stand out, first of all, even there's a diversity of opinions in this demographic, one thing that's almost universally presence when i asked the question what are your top issues in this election, pretty much consistently the answer is, the economy. pocketbook issues. particularly the cost of living. again, beyond that, that leads people in different directions. i want to play a couple of interviews i did with latino voters here in east las vegas. we visited a park, where there were some youth soccer leagues happening. i want to play a bit of what they said. >> family income. you know, just the cost of living. i want to be able to support myself and my children. that's what's important to me. a lot of bigger issues. but those issues don't affect me and m

david noriega has been following the story and joins us now.detaining? >> reporter: yeah, so we're in a situation where pretty much everything we know is what we heard from the venezuelan government in the interior minister's press conference over the weekend. so all of the information is coming from one source, very little of it has been corroborated or confirmed. but what the interior minister of venezuela alleged is a group of six foreigners were involved in a plot to overthrow the maduro government and assassinate president maduro. they identified the three americans. these photos that you're seeing were provided by the venezuelan government as part of that news release. they also say that they secured 400 rifles that were allegedly going to be used in this plot. they also described the first of those americans as the leader of the plot and said he is a u.s. navy s.e.a.l. the u.s. government has confirmed that a military member is detained in venezuela. we're presuming that is him but have not confirmed them and they're seeking access to th

steve kornacki is at the big board, and nbc news correspondent david noriega.ll telling us? >> what it's telling us, the question we've been asking since the 2020 election when donald trump did make some inroads with latino voters, we've been asking, will he retain those, could he possibly build on those? the numbers we're getting in our polls suggest he has built on those inroads. this 14-point gap against kamala harris for trump. these are the exit polls from the most recent elections, going back to 2012, barack obama won the latino vote by 44 points, hillary clinton in 2016 by 38. it was still 33 for biden in the exit poll. now in our poll, just 14 points for the democrats. so that's the big picture trend. what's going on among latino voters driving this? a couple of noteworthy gaps, there's a gender gap. among latino men, the race is tied. women, harris with a lead of 26 points. there is an age gap. look at this, latino voters under 50, harris is barely ahead. it's basically close to a tie. and then over 50, that's where harris gets her margin from and lead
