when david oyelowo read the script in 2007 there was no chance that he would have been cast in that rolee had been made that year. he had just arrived in hollywood from england. his body of work was not substantial enough to be considered for the lead in a major motion picture and his british accent had not been tamed to the point where he could have delivered the mesmerizing sound of martin luther king jr. and so this this is one of those rare instances where languishing and development hell in hollywood was the best thing that could have happened for "selma." the brilliant ava was in no position to be offered the role of directing in 2007. so in effect, the script just waited for david and ava to be ready and able to do it. she shot the movie in 32 days. most directors would have taken triple that time. strong bonds developed during the film shoot. the longer the shoot, the deeper the bonds. actor to actor, director to actors, and of course the crew. a real familiar love develops. the longer the team is together the harder it is to say goodbye. and everyone doesn't say goodbye on the s
