david perdue is ceo. has business experience.washington where he has been draining the swamp. he has been doing his job. that should go his way without any problem although he is working hard as he should. we all should. only two-ways to run unopposed and scared. he understands that. the other race is fill unexpired term of johnny isakson, our beloved senator who retired last year. kelly leffler is running in that jungle election along with doug collins who is colleague of mine in the house, a fine fellow. both are great republican candidates. i'm sure we'll be able to elect one of those. connell: one thing i noticed watching those races versus the presidential race. we came from north carolina the opposite dynamic is at play. the president is polling better, senator tillis is running for re-election. not here. the president is not polling as well as local republicans. do you read anything into that or can tell us why that might be the case? >> once the president gets message out about security and safety, i think that will appea

i'll tell you that i talked to one of those members, senator david perdue, a republican from georgia up for re-election yesterday and he said, look, i'm trying to be optimistic but i'm worried about the pace of the negotiations and they're starting to fear that pressure. remember, we expect them to be in session next week but they were supposed to be out of session, beginning the month long august recess and there doesn't seem to be any big break through. that's really what is going to be necessary to break this logjam. >> lawmakers do not like to shorten their recesses. let's talk about the white house, because the president is threatening unilateral action and suspending the payroll which the president opposes and is that a likely scenario and would the president be able to make that happen actually? >> well, jim, for a long time i think republican and democratic aides up here viewed the president's threat of executive action as just that, a threat. a negotiating tactic going into these meeting but i'll tell you that feeling that something could happen from the executive is growing
