brothers cecil and david rosenthal were lifelong members of the synagogue. cecil loved to greet members at the door while david set out the prayer books. they had developmental disabilities and dedicated their lives to helping others. they were inseparable. at 97, rose malinger regularly attended the tree of life with her daughter who survived the shooting. her family said she did everything she wanted to do in life. she was known as bubbe, yiddish for grandma, to everyone in the family and the entire community. bernice and sylvan simon died together in the same synagogue where they were married 62 years ago. their neighbors describe them as the sweetest people you can imagine, two people who shared a great love. 87-year-old melvin wax was usually one of the first to arrive at the services. his passions were his religion and the pittsburgh pirates. joyce fienberg had a long career as a research specialist. until she retired ten years ago. friends describe her as an engaging and warm person who lit up a room with her huge personality. jerry rabinowitz was a pr

fienberg, richard gottfried, rose mallinger, jerry rabinowitz, cecil rosen thal and his brother david rosenthal, bernice and sylvan simon, daniel stein, melvin wax, and irving younger. may their memory be a blessing to their families and community. it's difficult to even begin to adequately express the hurt that this community has endured, the horror that these families have endured, and the hurt that is still part of this community. maybe one of the best ways to convey not just our condolence and our sympathy but also our sol solidarity with those who face that horror and that danger and that hate is to talk about what those folks did in that dark, dark hour, and it literally was about an hour, maybe a little more than that, that morning, that saturday morning. we of course at this time, and so many have since that date paid tribute to those in law enforcement who confronted the murderer with uncommon valor. we pay tribute as well to the emergency service professionals, nurses, and doctors and others who ministered to those who were wounded and tried their best to minister to those who were dy
