david samadi and he is in san diego.chairman of the department of our rolling and chief of robotics at mt. sinai. >> jamie: our doctors are smarter going to these conferences, dr. siegle is here. associate professor of medicine. author of the interpulse and unlocking the secret code of sickness and health. welcome. we want to talk about melanoma because it's the most deadly form of skin cancer. it's void ablt if you stay out of the sun. 70,000 people are affected each year. that number is on the rise and actually the age of patients are getting younger. new research on non-melanoma skin cancer people are getting surgery to treat that. doctor, i'll start with you. what the first line of treatment to least aggressive to most aggressive? >> this is very serious cancer. skin cancer is most common type of cancer. we wanted to distinguish between melanoma that we have spoken in the past and non-melanoma which i want mark to dig in more. melanoma is about 70,000 people get diagnosed with this, 10,000 people die. even though the

david samadi, vice president and chief of robotics at mt.>> jamie: mark siegle has been very busy joining us live from dallas. he is associate professor at nyu and an author. this week, very similar to last year, doc, you got on the bike with very special heroes and with former president george w. bush. tell us about it? >> good morning. i'm here in dallas this morning, but for the last three days i am privileged to be on the ranch with former president george bush. the ride is actually on his ranch. he has very tough trails there. we made it through. it was raining and muddy. you saw the set up the wooded areas. i am happy to say outside of a couple of charlie horses and dr. samadi says my psa went up but it's great. >> for the third annual warrior 100-k bike ride president bush selected 15 warriors to ride his trails. the message for those warriors and for veterans everywhere is for exercise to help them improve the quality of life to make you feel better about yourself. this message extends to all of us. >> we have some pretty tough trail

david samadi is here to weigh in. such a sad story.usly when parents see that, or anybody sees that, they want to help this little girl. what is the rule in place? she is 10 and can't on the adult list? >> the cutting age is 12 years old. and the upper end is 60 sometimes 65. this is a genetic disease. she has had it for years, cystic fibrosis. the condition is getting worse. she has been waiting for years to get a transplant but the only way she will be able to get that is all the adults will either say no or if there is an extra one it will go to her. historically i can tell you on a surgical basis it was always very difficult to take a 200-pound lung from a man or woman to give it to a child. but now surgically we have advanced, technology has changed, we are able to take part of the lung and give it to her. it is unfortunate because of two years she is not making the list. and they should change that. >>gretchen: the one problem is that pediatric lungs are rare. in other words, another child would have to die and be on the donor li

david samadi joins us. the answer is yes?'ve got an infection around your back pain, pain area, an antibiotic can solve the problem in many cases? >> this is a fascinating new study. if you talk to a lot orthopedic surgeons they will tell you they thought bacteria caused back pain but they were rare. now a new study says a majority of the pain is caused by bacteria. how does that happen? bacteria from your skin that causes acne or from your teeth can get into your bloodstream and they actually travel that you have this slipped disk, the space between the disk, that is where the bacteria can get in there and causes inflammation. >>steve: that's where the pain comes from. if somebody is watching now, the news is before you get surgery, maybe you should talk to your doctor about putting you on a three-month course of antibiotics? >> if you do this today a lot of doctors will brush it off. i'm sure a lot of people will be skeptical about this. if they put them on 100 days of antibiotics, and the pain -- we're talking about patien

samadi or myself. we're fine with a little distinguished gray. >> david, what do you think about the finding?ink gray hair is perfectly find. >> of course. >> a lot of this is genetics. it's premature. my father at 35 went all gray. stress is a tremendous risk factor. look at the presidents coming in, three years later they are gray. a lot has to do with the body, the defense mechanism. as we age, some of the enzymes, some vacuum cleaners around our head like catalysts. as we age those vacuum cleaners won't work as well. it's not good for hair follicles, almost bleaches hair from inside out. what if you put it back in. that's what the study in. they have something that may show up in our shampoo, medications, et cetera, and that would increase the melanin. what's interesting about this, a lot of the study comes from vitiligo. michael jackson made it famous. they started using it on the skin. it's activated. the skin got melanin and got the color back. we're hoping this will help. >> vitiligo, talking about the areas of the skin without pigment that you see. this reversed that. >> if you've go
