david. >> reporter: scott, a team of about 20 american green berets have just completed a reconnaissance mission on mount sinjar in which they spent nearly the entire day trying to determine what it will take to get thousands of desperate refugees off the mountain. until now, the u.s. has relied on nightly airdrops of food and water to keep the refugees alive, but that will soon be replaced by a rescue operation that will put american troops in harm's way. an advanced team of marine osprey verticals off and landing aircraft, but several detachments of green berets arrived in erbil in northern iraq to draw up plans to both airlift refugees off the mountain and establish a land corridor they can take to safety. both plans will have to contend with isis fighters who have laid siege to the mountain and are firing both on the refugees and on helicopters. u.s. warplanes have been conducting strikes against isis positions around the mountain since last weekend, and more strikes would almost certainly be part of a rescue operation. the u.s. military has done this before. after the first gulf war in 1991

dierdre: scott, as david mentioned. you were right then you decided to go public.ansparent you went public so you could consider acquisitions. is it too early to fill us in on a little bit of your strategy? >> sure. well, you know i think today we represent 3.2% of all new car sales in the u.s. the guidance that we gave yesterday on the call is we'll continue to focus on making our brand something that people are aware of. we think we've got a lot of room to grow. 3.2%, we obviously think the market is much bigger than that. we're a nascent brand. even though we've gotten 300% increase in our brand awareness over the last 18 months we think we have a lot of headroom in terms of not only unit sales but in terms revenue. david: deirdre mentioned the word transparency. your company is all about transparency, transparency between the car buyer and the car seller. that is the idea. not everybody in the car selling business was into that idea. a lot of dealers kind of liked it when the buyers didn't have all the information you provide them with. have you won over a larg

of francis scott key in more than 75 years, and it is particularly important because it is coming out this year, 2014, the 200th anniversary of him writing the "star-spangled banner." as david mentioned, what percentage of americans know the name francis scott key? i don't know -- 95%, 98% -- who does not know the name? but then go to step b. what do you know about this guy? he wrote the "star-spangled banner." what else? not much. what i set out to do was illuminate this man and this time, and a player in the early republic. he was born in 1779 during the american revolution. he was born in a place called terra rubra, which was his family plantation in maryland, north of frederick maryland, not far from the pennsylvania border, not far from gettysburg, pennsylvania. his great grandfather came over here. he was a lawyer who became a rich planter, prominent citizen of southern maryland, and he purchased this place, which francis scott key's father inherited, and that is where frank grew up. they called him frank, by the way. so that is something you all know now that people do not know. and i'm going to call him frank for the rest -- they call him frankie when he was a kid,

instead, scott, they have been suspended after just seven. >> pelley: david martin at the pentagon, thank you, david. but some of the refugees who have been on that mountain don't share the pentagon's optimistic assessment. tholie d'agata is with them. >> reporter: thousands of these refugees have cheated death twice, first at the hands of isis militants, then from starvation on mount sinjar, where they'd fled. ali buk escaped the mountain five days ago. he told us he saw helicopters on the mountaintop but never any airdrops of food and water. what was it like on the mountain? >> the mountain is not good. we don't have water. we don't have food. the people there is very tired. >> reporter: and, he said, people were dying. he knew he had to get his young family to safety elsewhere, even at the risk of running into isis fighters. like many people we spoke with, he told us there are still thousands of yazidis who are trapped or too weak to leave. those who made it from mount sinjar to this camp make up the majority of the 15,000 refugees here, three times the number it was designed to hold.

joining us now on the phone is retail analyst david strasser of jenny, montgomery, -- jenny mungo murray scottmery scott. troubles you need to lowe's, or a sign of its core customer? >> i would argue it's a little bit of both. first, they have underperformed the industry for the better part of two years right now. q2 was a great quarter for the home improvement industry. a lot of that had to do with the great weather, a seasonal shift from q1 to q2. when you take the first half to gather, home depot was generally in-line and lowe's was below plan. get deeper into what has been a downturn into housing, i think it's going to be more impactful as we go through the year and we get through that spending related to last year's trend. >> i'm stunned by one statistics command that is, that home depot has been lowe's on sales growth for 30 consecutive quarters. that is hard to fathom. what is home depot doing right that lowe's cannot seem to figure out? this a lot inbout a lot of reports. the real estate they've added in the past seven to nine years since the last peak in 2005-06 underperformed. they o
