david siegel, the ceo who told his employees that some of them would face layoffs if president obamas re-elected, instead handed out 5% raises. his company, westgate resorts, enjoyed record profits this year and he says he wanted to share the wealth. not exactly upbeat about t t t ture, siegel says his employees will need those raises to deal with the impending higer costs he believes everyone will have to dure under an obama administration. a tasty piece of americana may be in jeopardy. hostess brands, the maker of wonder bread, twinkies and ding dongs, is warning that it may be forced to liquidate if union employees continue with a crippling strike. hostess has already announced the permanent closing of three bakeries as a result of the nationwide strike by 30% of its workforce that started last week. workers are protesting wage and pension cuts. the world's largest operator of bowling alleys strikes out. amf bowling worldwide filed for bankruptcy after failing to find a buyer for its 262 bowling centers. this will be its second trip through bankruptcy since the 1990s. the company,

david siegel, the ceo of westgate resorts sent an e-mail to employees saying if the president wins re-electione their jobs. this was obviously before the election. the e-mail said this. if any new taxes are levied on me or my company as our current president plans, i will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company. >> however, now that the president has been re-elected, mr. siegel hasn't handed out any pink slips. in fact, he handed out raises to all the employees. so why the switch? he joins us now along with with cnbc wealth editor robert frank, who first broke this story. mr. siegel, welcome back. so was that just a political ploy before the election, or did something change? what happened? >> it was not a political ploy. i never said i was going to fire anyone if president obama got re-elected. what i said is if his policies caused the company to cease making money, to cease expanding, i'll most likely have to lay off people down the road. time will tell. in the meantime, we are the most profitable we've been in our 32-year history. i've got the greatest employees in the world.

we spoke to david siegel a little while earlier in the israeli consul.ing us that the iron dome knock down a lot of these missiles has been working. so these rockets that have been fired into israel, a lot of them have been knocked down. the iron dome working. have you seen any of that unfolding where you are? >> air raid sirens go off. the rockets coming out of gaza, and then the iron dome goes up. impressive site. the iron dome is not perfect. it's intercepted about 200 rockets. about 500 or 600 have been fired. impressive thing about the iron dome is that it is smart. it only launches an interceptor when they t. thinks the rocket is head for populated area. most the time it works. the consequences when it doesn't work are tragic. three israelis have been killed so far in a rocket attack. a number of others injured. just today we had three rockets land inside an israeli city. and that's what the israelis are saying. they don't want to go into gaza. they don't want to conquer gaza. they say they need these rockets to stop. we have been down here in the
