david spunt has details from the justice department. good evening, david. >> good evening to you. more than 450 messages allegedly sent online to supreme court justices, federal prosecutors say the language was racist, homophobic and threatening. this comes at a time when the security of public officials is at an all-time concern for those trying to protect them. the 76-year-old man from anchorage, alaska, that was arrested, threatened the lives of six unnamed justices but also their family members. the messages began in march 2023 and picked up this injury when donald trump was given broad immunity in the special counsel's election interference case. he also threatened to send fellow veterans to spray their homes with bullets hopefully killing them. attorney general merrick garland said our justice depends on the ability for justices to make decisions based on the law and not on fear. following the overturning of roe v. wade, the u.s. marshals began providing 24 hour security to the supreme court justices and their families. this after a man armed with a handgun and knife travele
