wagner and members of the subcommittee. thank you for allowing me this opportunity. my name is david johns and i am executive director of the national black justice coalition, the nations preeminent organization focused on empowering lgbtq and same-sex 11 people, families and communities. if there's one thing i want the subcommittee to hear me say, black people with intersectional identities are often confronted with additional challenges that are too often ignored. i will not read my written testimony but i think it important to highlighted a few things. students assumed to be lgbtq+ or who are lgbtq often lacked the protections of their peers. my doctoral dissertation, titled, supporting the development of black lgbtq students in the u.s., calls for increased community supports for lgbtq+ youth and national inter operable data set that acknowledge intersectional identities that shape how we experience institutions like schools in powerful ways. when i think about this i often think about hope and i often think about a transfusion to describe her high school years as treacherous. wi
