university of houston was center and author of the book things i've learned from die a book about life david walker. thanks very much happy to be with you tell us why you wrote things i've learned from. i wrote it because i was dealing with the. really different events in my life that overlapped i've been. in texas for about twenty years and if your taxes you have a lot of experience when you see a lot of people die you see a lot of family members people who get executed have a difficult time dealing with you see family members of victims who still have an emotional stake in the execution and so after doing that work for twenty years i thought i knew everything there was to know about the emotional range of death and how it affects all of the different people who are implicated by that. and then i experienced two other deaths in my life and they changed the way i viewed the relationships that people have with those who are facing imminent death the first was the death of my father who was diagnosed with melanoma when he was fifty eight years old. died from cancer when he was barely sixty years old
