and david weinstein, a former state and federal prosecutor in miami-dade county. he's now a partner at the clarke silverglate law firm in miami. why did this verdict cause such a stir. >> because it was a mixed bag, right. we did get some on some convictr the attempt murder and charge and the initial charge. but the fact that another person in florida has been able to kill an innocent unarmed young black teenager is where there's a problem. there's no conviction on it. it's a mistrial and you know at the end of the day, there's large concern that so-called loud case really was missing in that. in fact it's loud thug music and what underlies thug music and how they described it where the defendant mr. dunn described it. because that is really important and that evidence of what was really going on in his mind really was not explored in the case. >> ifill: david weinstein, help us explain why there was an attempted murder conviction but not a first degree murder conviction in the same case. >> i think it's because of the break in time between really two independent

david weinstein and bridget kelly.statements from both of their lawyers that they had not yet been subpoenaed by the federal prosecutors. okay. so if they're not getting subpoenas but hoboken is, does that mean that the federal criminal inquiry was not looking at the bridge lanes and was instead looking at sandy funding and other parts of the scandal? no. it turns out because now we know that federal prosecutors have also interviewed the mayor of ft. lee. of course, whose town was turned into a parking lot by those bridge lane closures. so overall, we're not going to know until they tell us what exactly is happening with the federal criminal investigation into what happened in new jersey. but now at least we know that they're talking to ft. lee as well as talking to officials in hoboken. that's what we know about what's happening with the federal prosecutors side of this. what's happening with the state side of it? what's happening with the state legislative investigation into this scandal? joining us now is new jersey

that we discovered the identity of the port authority police lieutenant who was present with david weinsteink in september. a police lieutenant who then drove around wildstein who was the christie appointee who oversaw the closures and a police officer who texted with wild stein for at least the two morning of the closures. the identity of that police lieutenant, thomas michaels was noteworthy because of his family's long term ties to chris christie's family and because his brother, jeff michaels is a top republican power player in trenton, one who grow up with christi, helped in his campaigns and has a reputation in trenton for almost peerless access to the governor. we reached out to chip michaels, jeff michaels but only received this statement that quote the governor has never had any conversations with jeff or chip pa michaels on this topic. but that report returned attention toward lieutenant michaels and the port authority police force in the process raising many new questions. first there's the matter of lieutenant michaels. the day after our story ran, pat foye ordered an internal re
