david will give us his insider perspective on the hearings. >>> bay area transit leaders will hold a special meeting today to discuss the latest construction problem on the new bay bridge. ktvu claudine wong joins us now from treasure island to tell us the problem involves dozens of giant bolts. claudine. >> reporter: good morning, pam. i just got off the phone for the spokesperson. and he says the full board will hear a full report on the problem. let me show you where it is. if you take a look behind me there is the new span. if you look at the lights coming from the top of the tower, follow the lights all the way down to the base of the new span right where it connects with the skyway that is where the bolts were discovered. 32 of them actually snapped. they arnine to 12 feet long. very, very big. actually 9-17 feet. they were produced in the united states and at this point all indications are that hydrogen is to flame blame. that hydrogen got into the metal blakeing that metal brittle and causing those to snap. these were all done in 2008 and bought in 2008. so the idea is that the whole batch may be bad. but it is calling the commission to look at everything that came in that batch.
