it was bought brand new by sammy davis, jr.vintage cars are owned by the academy of art in san francisco. they have a huge car collection and their students use the cars to practice their design. the first two cars to go across will be fords. 1935 ford and a 1940 ford convertible. the third car we believe is a 1937 buick. the same type of car that was the first car to cross in 1936 when the bridge opened. in the mean time across the bridge to san francisco and ktvu's david stevenson. lot of people over there can't wait for this bridge to open as well. >> reporter: that's right. look behind me. you could see san francisco police officers, monitoring the traffic allowed to get on. they are turning away other people. they are counting down the hours till they reopen to everyone and cars can cross the bay bridge again. >> even on labor day traffic couldn't have been busier. they can't wait to take their two wheelers on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. >> yeah. i think it will be great. lot of people will take advantage of it

jr. mr. davis: mr. speaker, i rise today to honor the bravery and courage of sergeant gary 1970, kirch, april 1, in vietnam. wh an enemy launched an attack, the allied deend fathers suffered a multitude of fatalities. ergeant be kimbings -- beikirch treated the wounded servicemen. sergeant he charged through enemy fire and carried the soldier to safety. instead of allowing his own wounds to be treated he wan continuously from the field of battle to the aid station to help his fellow soldiers. it is for these reasons that i'm proud to honor the actions of sergeant gary beikirch. on november 5, 1966 in the republic of vietnam, while moving to aid a ejieged unit, lieutenant jeb's foaly's company was attacked, he was able to attend to wounding soldiers while dvancing them. he continued to advance after being evacuated. after being struck by a grenade, he refused medical aid and led an assault to destroy three enemy positions. it is for his outstanding leadership and selflessness i'm proud to honor and remem
