that included daytona beach. going to find here is if there is circulation, which is why we have a warning, should maybe its way toward holly hill. holly hill is just north of the speedway, just south of ormond beach. this is almost over with. once this is over with, i think we'll find the skies will probably stay dark but not threatening, or at least not life threatening. they could continue the race. there will be sporadic showers that will just prolong this race. but the severity of this is the heavy rainfall and the lightning. therefore, authorities at the speedway, international speedway, said let's evacuate the grandstand. find shelter if you can, as john was mentioning there. again, most of the heavy rain is just on the beach or just inland. again, we're going to watch this moving rapidly at 35 to 40 miles per hour. hopefully we'll see that this system will soon exit the coastline and they'll be able to resume. let's keep our fingers crossed. k quarter of a million people endangered under that warning. >>>

a tornado warning north of the daytona 500. they have been giving weather warnings out to the people in the stands. this is playing out right now. what is the situation on the ground? >> so we had a tornado warning earlier in and around the daytona 500. people were told to seek shelter immediately. rainfall rates up to 4 inches an hour, so a lot of rain, a lot of lightning. the good news is the tornado warning has been lifted, but we're still seeing some thunderstorms in the area. it looks like we have a severe thunderstorm just south and west of daytona. and you can see the heavy rain showers moving through the region, so obviously the race is delayed. we're hoping people have been in shelters because the storms continue to fire. the good news is the tornado warning is over. but we'll still see the potential for showers and thunderstorms as well as lightning in the area. so fluid situation. we'll certainly keep you up-to-date, but we have tens of thousands of people here at the daytona 500. and we were speaking with rick earli

i'll take you to daytona beach. i want to show you what is happening at the daytona 500. of course, they have stopped the race because of the rain and severe weather, that was in place. it's raining right there, and once the rain stops, people had to be evacuated. once the rain stops, they have to clear and dry the track, which could take one to two hours, if not more than that. we are looking at rain showers at day donor beach and towards the west. the ones to the west will fall apart. they won't be as much of a threat. i'm not sure how late they'll go with the race. now up to the north-east. beautiful weather. a lot of the people get out to enjoy it all the way from boston to washington. new york is at 51 degrees. a lot of people are worried about the snow. we are looking at the snow. the temperatures are dropping. we'll drop to 32 degrees. what we think will happen is there may be a snow flurry o two. because it was so warm today. we don't expect to see accumulation at all. if you are in upstate new york, that's different. we'll see snow across that region. jonathan, a
