dcyf children's fuplds are allocated for all children in the city. however, we do prioritize children who are disconnected from services and a lot of our children in our department -- children in our department we serve school districts through them. this is the timeline that we came up with starting back in early september, early fall this year what we call setting the stage. and this is primarily us coming together and just understanding the logistics of the two funds. we are now moving into the next phase of this work which is this engagement of stake holders and you can see that the work will continue where there might be a switch in january of 2014 to this notion of launching a campaign. so in terms of setting the stage, we have a working group that is comprised of school district and city staff, primarily the mayor and the superintendent who then appointed miranda and myself as well as samuel fields from the controller's office and kate howard from the mayor's budget office to come together to look at the nuts and bolts of these two funds. so c

i am in discussions with dcyf, and i am is hopeful we will be able to work something out. my predecessor was always committed to making sure funding occurred, and i will continue to do that, so you have an ally in me. the budget is the most eminent issue, and we do have a structural budget deficit in the city, so we need to deal, of course, with the short-term balancing our budget in a way that does not decimate city services that people rely on, but also to address our long- term structural budget deficit, and that means implementing some budget reforms. smooth out our budget process so it is not a boom/bust kind of budget. reforming our pension system and retiree health care system so that they are stable. we do a decent job providing low-income housing. we do a terrible job providing housing for low or middle class and middle-class people, people who are working and paying taxes that we need to have here for a functioning economy, so i am looking for ways to try to fund that, particularly for essential employees like teachers, nurses, first responders. projects coming u

and this year we were not renewed for 21st century funds or dcyf funds. and we have 397 students enrolled in the after-school program but no funding. when we had funding we were the top-rated as far as attendance. and kendall is one of the students that benefited from the program. and we had 10 to 15 depending on the semester of the programs. >> i am kendall, and i am senior at balboa school. i have been going to the after-school program at balboa for four years. it's been a big benefit to the community. a lot of my friends would not be graduating if not for the after-school program. they have cyber high that provides tutoring, and they have programs to excel in math. and they have teachers that come in and help us, actual math teacher and not just computers. in addition we have a bunch of programs. we recently launched a 3-d printing program that is bringing 3-d technology into the hands of youth. and promoting engineering and education in our programs. we really need to fund this program. it was terrible without this program in the beginning of the year

typically that's not what my office does because dcyf does a lot more, but because we wanted to get to folks earlier, we took resources out of my budget to get to that area. the incumbent worker training is done with the department of video coalition and as we are done with the presentation, you will happy new year more about that. currently we have 150 students enrolled. so we currently have all of those students who will be done with those various trainings by the end of summer, but i will talk of about of that 150 we do have 25 hard place ments so far meaning that we have been able to place them. this slide is showing you the breakdown of the dollars around the fund that go we received. so you can see how to funding laid out for us. the other thing i think that's important to know about h 1b grant is the whole point of h 1b visas is a lot of companies use that to bring workers in. they are sending a message that they want us, the united states as a whole because these are federal grants, to have an opportunity to set up training systems that we can grow our own and because at the ti
