and the majority of the funding from dcyf. this allows us to work with partners to enrich and enhance our after school programs, student leadership programs, social emotional development and much more, which directly contribute to building prosocial, positive learning environments in all of our schools. i want to take just a couple of minutes to mention two areas in particular that we are especially thankful for. for many families providing after school programming is essential, especially for working families, who without them, would have to pay for childcare. over 20,000 san francisco unified school district students are enrolled in after-school programs and they not only provide a safe place for students to be, but through the partnership with dcyf, we have collaborated to provide to assess and strengthen the quality of the programs. another area we are particularly excited about is the beacon expansion. they and the school district have partnered to provide beacon programs at nine of our schools. it's helped the district t

our work around family support also is a collective effort with dcyf and hsa. we have 26 family resource centers across the city and our focus is about supporting families that are most vulnerable, especially those in the eastern side of the city. and also being able to connect with families as we now know, there are many families who are accessing information through technology, so it's not just a play based strategy. we've been able to effect parenting and parenting skills. being a parent is very hard. it not something that has been taken -- you know, it looks better on tv than in real life. and so what we do is provide a lot of parenting support for families. you just don't know how discipline sometimes works in this country. so our family resource centers are there, they're the front lines of helping families navigate all these systems. we've been seeing an incredible response in terms of being able to see parents and see their efficacy as well. and in child health, this is something we're really still working on. this is, i would say, one of the mysteries

worked with the treasure island youth and family services plan, working to convince departments like dcyf to invest more in our treasure island residents. and as we speak, you are fighting to get a school, a grocery store, and also keep our county transportation agencies accountable on the island to the transportation plans that they're planning for the future of the growth. i know that there are so many needs on the island, but i just want to say that i've heard you loud and clear. and the need in particular for family resources. not many of us get to visit treasure island as often as we should. they have beautiful views, by the way. and this is probably a very good week to go on the island because of the weather. but it is really an amazing community. you go there after school at 3:30 or 4:00 p.m., and kids are just running around the neighborhood. you know, without adult supervision. it's just amazing to see that in san francisco, that that kind of community exists here. it's both urban and also just really just small community neighborhood. and everyone knows each other. and we have s

think i first 5 and dcyf and office of early care and education working together is a great support that so many of our families need. especially in this time where it's hard for families to live in san francisco because it is so expensive and our city is complex. i just want to say that i really wanted to bring this to the forefront because it is really about planning. as we see that the tobacco money -- and that is good -- is diminishing, now our communities are really supporting on this infrastructure of family resource centers and also the support for the families through the tobacco money, the prop 10, as that money diminishes, what is the future of funding for these crucial services to our families? what i love about the first 5 also, they fill the gaps. and as you know, these are some families that would fall through the gaps if we didn't have this infrastructure in place. so, i wanted to thank all the representatives today, i wanted to thank all the families that came out and the people who came out to support what first 5 is doing and i want to thank my colleagues for allowing m
