this week mayor de blasio took heat for calling on the police department to improve what he calls customeralls for greeters to meet members of the public when they arrive at a local precinct. the department says improving community relations and fighting violent crime are not mutually exclusive. meanwhile, a criminal justice professor and former nypd detective says the city reinstate proven crime fighting tools in order to halt the bloodshed. >> one initiative that could bring crime down is bringing back plainclothes officers. by bringing back plainclothes officers, they have the ability to infiltrate a lot of the gangs and a lot of these gun dealers and traders. >> crime is up. city hall says so too are gun arrests, increased more than 30% compared the last two years. this fall new yorkers are going to elect a new mayor. the two leading contenders are a former cop democratic adams and guardian angels founder a republican, crime fighting is a priority for both campaigns. one thing they both agree on is there are too many guns on the street. back to you. >> jon: david lee miller, thank you.
