i'm deanna leblanc. more local police officers were among the hundreds who gathered today in woodbridge to remember a virginia police officer killed on her first day on the job. norfolk police posted this picture on the department's facebook page of the honor guard after it arrived in prince william county this morning. a memorial service and funeral was held today for officer ashley guindon. she was shot and killed saturday while responding to a domestic violence call. the family of a man shot and killed by a norfolk police officer is now suing the officer indicted in his death. david latham in 2014. carrington has been charged with manslaughter - his trial is set for later this year. but now, latham's family is also fighting for damages. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc is here with the details. this is new - there are already criminal charges against officer edington - that is set to move forward to trial in september. now - he's also facing a civil lawsuit from the victim's family. according to court

this happened two years ago. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc is looking into this new development. edington for nine million dollars. this, is on top of the criminal charge he's already facing in david latham's death. david latham's family maintains - they called police for help in june of 2014. they say the 35-year-old was having a mental episode - and they wanted an ambulance to take him to the hospital. when 25-year-old officer michael edington showed up - latham had a knife. edington, who had never used his gun on duty, shot latham in the doorway of the home. medical paperwork says he was shot 8 times - twice death. suit - they total their damages at nine million dollars .
