but for debbie and james poole . difference. afternoon under the -- 518 51 he went above and beyond he really did -- james had just been of several strokes he's spent the last few months in rehab. on the way home . debbie noticed they were running on empty. she stopped here at this shell station on fifth avenue north to fill up. -- 51703 i was gettin' gas and the card wouldn't work." -- a man nearby offered to help . he took the card and started asking questions. -- 517 18 is it a debit card a credit card what's the pin number and i no sooner said what's the pin number and he just took off running 28 -- debbie immediately thought. -- 517 33 we're screwed -- officer gaddis heard the call for help and responded. -- officer douglas gaddis responded there both pooles were just very upset and 14 it upset him -- it hit this officer. because james has officer gaddis called capital one and cancelled the out his own credit card. -- 53 and he put gas in my car because he knew i didn't have any money and he really helped us 1901 -- 52540 i don't consider this going above and beyond these are peop

this officer stepped in and debbie pool gets emotional thinking about how officer james gaddes helped them. they stopped for gas. having a hard time at the pump, they called a stranger over. but the man had other plans. >> asking me questions. he is like is it a debit card? a credit card? what's the pin number? and i know as soon as he said what's the pin number he took off. >> reporter: the officer arrived and did more than take a report. he sees they have no money and filled up their tank. >> there's not many people like him. >> when i got there, they were very upset. >> you are getting emotional too. >> reporter: on the job for 15 years, he has never seen cruelty like this. >> i see my own grandparents. recovering from a stroke, and debbie is healing from a kidney transplant. the thief took from people who have little. >> for him to prey on them, it is just disgusting. you have to be careful who you put your trust in. >> reporter: fortunately, the couple was able to cancel their credit card, but this is not the first time the officer has helped someone. he says he does not do this
