this is debbie lehrman at the human services network. as the commission will be considering regulations next month, i want to speak to the incompatible activities provisions that they applied in nonprofits. we appreciate that the commission agreed to defer to the board of supervisors to address the issue of compensation by a department contractor. a complete ban would affect lower level employees and frontline workers who have no decision making authority regarding the contracts, but who need two jobs to make ends meet. it would also be devastating to nonprofits who struggle to provide competitive wages for specialized medical staff like nurses and psychiatrists, many of whom work some part time hours in nonprofits. and we urge the commission to support a narrower provision from the board that protects lower wage, lower wage workers and allows specialists to share their skills and expertise in the service of vulnerable city residents. sadly we would have preferred to see the same consideration given to city employees who serve on nonprof
