i want to bring in michigan senator debbie stabenow. chairwoman of the democratic policy and communications committee. senator, it was such an interesting series of questions that we heard from you folks. one of the things we just heard repeatedly from the ceo was we're going to do the right thing. we're committed to doing the right thing. but reavoided getting pinned down on exactly what that means. what's your take away? >> i was frankly disappointed. you know, he said the right words, we're going to do the right thing, but i asked him why he's saying now that they're going to learn from this and increase safety protocols. this is the 20th derailment that has had a chemical spill, the 20th. and i said, you know, the folks in east palestine, the families, the businesses, the community would have liked it if they had maybe decided to make changes on the 19th or the 15th or maybe after the first one, and he had no response to that, other than just saying that they were sorry for what happened. and that is just not enough. they have rolle

the michigan representative elissa slotkin, she is throwing her hat in the ring to replace debbie stabenowidate for democrats as they look at the map in 2024? >> we're on the eve of the senate elections, but at the same time we've seen that slotkin has done a good job clearing the field. most of the other likely democratic candidates, garland gillchrist, for instance, are not running this time around. and that, i think, speaks to the ability of slotkin to pose a sort of unifying message. but she's going to have to put up a front, because there will be some kind of republican nominee and republicans know that michigan is not a deep blue state. republicans can win there. at the same time, though, slotkin's record as a national security expert, as someone in the cia, someone who, at times, bucks democratic leadership but is reliable on things like prescription drug pricing makes her a formidable candidate. >> daniel, heidi, thanks to both of you. >>> just ahead here, university of georgia football star and someone expected to be one of the nfl's top prospects now facing charges related to the

i've talked to senator debbie stabenow of michigan who is now the chairman of the agriculture committee and told her that i hope we can reauthorize this program in the next farm bill. she supports it. i'm going to talk to the republicans on the committee as well. i hope that we can do that. what we've done is been able to make gants available -- grants available, first $5 million in fiscal year 2020 and we hope to go higher in the years to come. does it make any difference? well, just a few minutes ago mark and mavis kennedy were in my office. they're in uniform and are very proud of the work they do in hancock county. because of the assistance that we provided to them in one of their applications, they've been able to extend their emergency medical services to virtually all the towns in hancock county. what it means is further ambulance service instead of 140 calls a year, they're now receiving 361, virtually a call every single day for services. and they have the equipment and the personnel well trained by the same siren act to respond and save lives as they're transporting people tha
