debi: thank you.: i think that, in practice, attitudes towards free-speech depend on who is being gored. very few people have a principled and relatively consistent position. most people, including quite sophisticated people, lawyers, institutional operators, politicians, respond based on their perception of where their advantage lies. i think we have seen the chips in the last year roughly. i would say until october 7 of last year, free-speech had become sort of right coated f -- right-coded for reasons that have been described. in the last year, free-speech has been rediscovered by the academic left, including by some people who i am pretty sure have put free-speech" in the past -- free-speech in quotes in the past to signify it is a problematic concept. now they feel their freedom is threatened and they want to claim those protections and vice versa i can also think of people on the right who were all in for free speech a couple years ago who now issue demands that classes be canceled and signs be

debi: let's just speak all about you. john: erec is a compelling advocate for the liberal fundamentals. and in a moment of time where people lost faith in the idea that persuasion and dialogue based on the merit of ideas with people who don't see things like you do spiritually or philosophically can move the needle in the direction of progress. i'd like to believe a voice like erec's can help reacquaint folks with the power of those fundamentals. take us smyly -- tavis smyly owns a television station and he is unapologetically aggressive individual, who also, if you know him, is somebody willing to converse and dialogue and debate in good faith the wider spectrum of perspectives on the subjects of civil rights and social justice and office. my frustration with tavis is he's national -- not as adamant of people following the way he does but embody it. in a police where there's soul searching taking place in the black community or social justice oriented circles following the victory of donald trump, maybe this is a moment

ken: thank you, debi. honor to be here and comment on the two davids, one of whom i am told to address as the more handsome david and the other as the smarter what. -- the smarter one. [laughter] i will let you all sort that out. i am very proud of the work being done here at scalia law school. scalia has been recognized as one of the top 30 law schools in the u.s. i believe that is an understatement. i believe we are now among the top law schools in the country. i am pleased to be here. this is an important moment to be discussing this issue. over the last year and a half, we have seen worse antisemitic incidents in higher education than ever before. during this academic year, we are not seeing quite the volume as a year ago, but this is clearly the second highest rate of antisemitic incidents we have seen in our lifetime. moreover, the incidents in recent weeks have had an intensity we have not seen before. we are hearing not just -- [indiscernible] but "glory to the martyrs" becoming the more prominent

we've seen that with stephen miller being tapped at the deby chief of staff for policy, someone who wouldrobably struggle through a senate confirmation if he was tapped for a post require that. as for the cabinet level positions that will need to be confirmed, this point we haven't seen too much backlash for the pix which include the department of homeland security secretary governor kristi noem, and potentially there could be some difficulty just given the surprise over the pick of the fox to was a national veteran as well who has been tapped to lead the department of defense but by and large we haven't seen much formal outspoken pushback to those who have been selected so far knowing that this transition, while it is moving quickly, we are still waiting on a number of names including official appointments or selections for the treasury secretary role in the secretary of state role. we will see if we get any light on that from donald trump as he emerges from the still ongoing meeting here at the white house with president joe biden. >> we thank you so much for your time. that is bloomber
