deborah feyerick joins us now. so as you reported the texas rangers have taken over this investigation. the fbi is getting involved. is there any sense of a timetable? do we know where they are in the investigation? >> reporter: well, anderson, what we do know they still have not searched that truck. they still have not interviewed any members of the family, not officially. and remember, several of the family members, the wife and his parents, they were eyewitnesss to what was going on the evening that he disappeared, and then all through the search. so they've not reached out to them as of yet, anderson. >> i don't understand they had a search, dogs that went on for several days. if his body was there during the search just a short distance from the command center, that seems hard to imagine. and the condition of the body as you said didn't -- according to witnesses you talked to, it didn't sound like that was a body that had been left out in the woods for more than two weeks. >> reporter: well, that's exactly rig

right now deborah feyerick is joining us. she's been looking into this story.e blasio just spoke about the issue. it's a sensitive matter. what's going on here? >> well, the real issue is to tax or not to tax. for new york city mayor bill de blasio it appears taxing the rich has less to do with funding universal pre-k programs and more to do with making a statement and redistributing the wealth. at least that's what his critics are saying. and that comes after the mayor essentially said thanks but no thanks to new york's governor's offer to pay some $2.2 billion surplus money to actually fund these pre-k and after school programs. now, the governor didn't quite like that because he doesn't want to raise taxes. and by providing this money he felt that he would be covering that. well, in fact the new york city mayor says that he wants to make sure that any money that goes to these after school programs is being provided and controlled by the people of new york city. take a listen. >> what i'm clear about is we need reliable funding. and we need a substantial amou

♪ amen >> a short time ago, i spoke to deborah feyerick, reporting from jasp jasper, texas.tioned drugs were found in his system. what kind of drugs? >> reporter: the coroner found a combination of three different drugs, cocaine, meth and also amphetamin amphetamines, and concluded that the death was accidental, caused by drug intoxication, anderson. >> in that coroner's report, did it indicate how long the drugs had been in his system? >> reporter: no, it did not, and that's a very big question that the family wants answered. they want to know whether, in fact, those drugs entered alfred wright's system during his disappearance, and that's a big part of the investigation that the family wants answered. >> has the family done their own autopsy? >> reporter: the family hired an independent pathologist to look into this, and their pathologist reached a very different conclusion than the official autopsy, which found that the death was accidental. in fact, their pathologist said that it appeared alfred's death was caused by severe trauma to the neck and to the head area, and th

deborah feyerick begins our report. >> reporter: the sun was just going down when alfred wright turned into this liquor store on a long, quiet stretch of route 87 in east texas, not far from the louisiana border. the 28-year-old physical therapist was on his way to see a patient when his unreliable pickup truck broke down again. his wife, lauren, who was home with their two young sons immediately sent alfred's parents to get him. >> last time i called him, i just heard heavy breathing. he was in distress of some sort. he was not responding to anything that i was saying. >> reporter: his parents were still 20 minutes away and lauren was growing frantic, sending text after text. after 5:57, "trying to get to you,." "answer the phone." "please answer." and at 6:16, i said, "please answer," and that was after i had already heard him in distress of some sort. >> reporter: when his parents got to the store, they saw alfred's truck, but no sign of alfred. only the clerk behind the counter. >> i went in, asked her had she saw a clean-cut young black guy in scrubs. she told me that, yes, i saw

now after deborah feyerick reporting put a spotlight on the case she joins us now. what are you learning? >> reporter: we can tell you that the justice department, attorney general eric holder, is being contacted about looking into this case. congressman sheila jackson lee from the houston area of texas met with the wright family yesterday for several hours. she had seen our three-part investigation here on "ac 360" into the death and disappearance of alfred wright. we spoke to her chief of staff today. he says that they are drafting a letter as we speak. that letter's going to go to the justice department, attorney general eric holder, as well as the u.s. attorney in beaumont, texas. we have no specifics just yet on the kind of investigation what assistance are going to ask from the justice department. but it would include things for example like civil rights violations, hate crimes, public corruption, for example corruption within law enforcement and the texas rangers have been asking the fbi for assistance. right now there's no new information on the status of th
