our national correspondent deborah feyerick brace for the impact at new jersey mall. can see the crowds behind you. oh, wait. it's early. >> reporter: it's a trickle. there are some. a lot of people came last night at 6:00. the parking lot here at newport center is a mall in jersey city, the parking lot was packed according to a person who works here. the stores were open. very busy. you can see now it is down to like a trickle. a couple of intrepid shoppers still remain. there are some who are actually standing outside the h & m store. about 100 people outside the h & m store which is a couple of blocks down in new york terms. the retails are expected to really bring in a lot of money this year. only 12% of all those who shop will likely find it in the mall. some stores stayed open. this store over here, i'll turn the camera around, this is called lids. one worker inside said they did an extra day's worth of business overnight simply by staying open the extra eight hours. we want to tell you, john, we got coffee at starbucks and that was a busy store. at 4:00 a.m., th

cnn's deborah feyerick is chasing down details. she joins me now with more. good morning. >> morning, carol. about half dozen facebook accounts suggest this woman was becoming more and more radicalized and supportive of isis, posting images of the "virtues" of mujahadeen and claiming "i love isis." she was upset that her account kept getting deleted because of her views and postings. the woman is 29-year-old heather kaufman, she's accused of working as an isis recruiter, someone who could help others get to syria, join the blood thirsty terror group. according to an fbi criminal complaint, she tried to recruit two people, including an undercover fbi agent. in the first case, a man she claimed to be her husband but whom it appears she'd never met, she allegedly set him up with brothers who gave him contacts into turkey. the man ultimately was in macedonia, he changed his mind, he stayed there. but after fbi agents executed a search warrant on her facebook site, an undercover agent posing as a wannabe jihadi met with the woman saying he, too, was interested in

deborah feyerick, thank you very much.nd retailers are not just depending on today's sales, but a strong month in the short weeks before christmas. allison kison kosik joins me no. we were just talking about this. as we look ahead to the holiday shopping season, it's obviously the most important time of the year for retailers. is it looking optimistic? >> it is. the national retail federation is expecting sales to rise 4% last year. last year they rose 3.1%. so a bit of an improvement there. another good point to make. the conditions of the economy are looking better. there's a cnn orc poll showing specifically how americans are feeling about the economy, and 32% say it's recovering. 41% say it's stabilized. 26% say the economy is getting worse, but that's an improvement from 40% around this time last year. also helping, at least retailers are hoping will help sales this year, gas prices are lower, so that puts more money in our pockets. we can spend more. the weather is better. remember the polar vortex? >> oh, yes. >> th

with me here on those concerns regarding security, deborah feyerick. >> they have reached an unprecedented level within the last year. the nypd right now is paying close attention along with other police departments on what this means, the two palestinians that walked into that synagogue. a religious institution, not a military base, not a shopping mall, but a religious institution and slaughtered the rabbis. the nypd commissioner said the officers are working closely with the terrorism task force. he issued a statement a little earlier today saying they are monitoring all the developments in jerusalem. they're closely working with the fbi joint terrorism task force to monitor whatever other developments there might be. now, there's no known specific threat towards the united states, not at this time, but there is now increased presence around both synagogues and also around symbolic -- symbolic targets. because, clearly, anyone who wants to carry out an attack is going to look for an area and look for people who are not only vulnerable, but where the impact of that attack is the greatest.

she's the secretary of state and she told my colleague, deborah feyerick, just a little while ago that turnout was higher than usual here in kentucky. she voted here in the city of lexington, as a matter of fact. senator mcconnell with his wife, elaine chow, also voted today in louisville, kentucky. he stands to become the next majority leader. that is if republicans overtake the united states senate. it's been a real uphill climb for alison lundergan grimes in the state, very conservative state in a lot of ways. the last polls actually showed that mcconnell was up by as much as nine points. but the question, of course, is what's that turnout going to look like here in the bluegrass state and will mitch mcconnell become the next majority leader, ashlei ashleigh? >> if you turn on the cable news or consume the commercials, that place is absolutely electrified. but then you're actually there, you're actually standing there. does it feel the same where you're standing as it looks on the tv? >> reporter: i tell you, this is a very interesting state. i've gone around this part of kentucky a

in the meantime, i want to bring in my cnn colleagues, ben wedeman, deborah feyerick and joe johns. ben, first to you. this heavy-handed remark, are we getting any more indication on exactly what that is going to mean? >> reporter: we know that the prime minister will be speaking within the next half hour. but we've already seen a statement from the prime minister's office indicating that israel will demolish the homes of these two palestinian cousins in their 20s from the east jerusalem neighborhood. that seems to be one of the measures they're going to be taking to try to deter possible attackers in the future. this is a tactic the israelis have used in the past. in fact, it goes back to the days of the british mandate before the state of israel was created. so that's one of the steps. but it's important to keep in mind that these attackers didn't come from the west bank, they didn't come from gaza. nobody is making any direct link between them and, for instance, hamas. and, of course, east jerusalem is completely under israeli control. so there's only so much the israeli authorit

deborah feyerick is standing outside bellevue hospital where dr. spencer was, with the latest., deb. >> reporter: hey there, chris. 33-year-old dr. craig spencer is expected to be released today. he's going to mach a very brief statement. he says he's not going to take any questions and plans to do no interviews but he has been treated. he was admitted here on october 23rd, kept in isolation ward, given a lot of liquids, a lot of electric lites and also received a transfusion from another ebola survivor, nancy writebol, that was during the course of his treatment here at the hospital. he was widely criticized, chris, as you remember, because instead of staying at home when he returned from guinea, having worked with doctors without borders, he went out. he went bowling, he went to dinner, he was on the subway, he was also, took a taxi and a lot of people thought that wasn't the responsible thing to do, even though the doctor had been self-monitoring, he had been taking his temperature twice daily and it was when his temperature went up to 103 degrees that he actually called doc
