>> well, barbara, decatur street is shut down here in the area of the rail tracks here. take a look behind me. you can see the crews still here on the scene. let's look at the chopper video. some pretty dramatic vilss to show you here of this suv that got in the way of this train. the train was heading northbound on the tracks. it's a csx train, a freight train and for whatever reason this suv got on to the tracks. the train, fortunately, was going rather slowly, tried to stop. it did impact, it did strike the suv and we're told that it dragged the vehicle about 30 feet up the tracks until it came to a complete stop. now, there was a woman behind the wheel, she's in her 30s. that's all we know about her identity. we're told that she has serious injuries, but that she is expected to live. now, exactly what was going on at the time this all happened. you can see that the lights here are flashing at this crossing here. exactly how this, the two came into this path of collision, that's still part of the investigation. but, there is a construction crew that's here on the scen

right now at the intersection of connecticut and decatur, this is going to be something if it does not change by rush hour. trust he, there are -- trust me, there are big power lines on connecticut avenue. if we go south a little bit more on connecticut you actually can see some of the power lines which have been kind of strewn across the doorway to this office building. cars are allowed through, but what they have done is taken it down to one lane. essentially you have southbound traffic on some of the northbound lanes. in certain spots it is down to one lane traffic in each direction. it is dark, that is going to add to the confusion and some of the other problem spots we are seeing is friendship heights area. totally dark on wisconsin avenue there. and connecticut avenue in kensington. no street lights to speak of whatsoever. the problem here, these lights in particular, pep co-had promised to get the power lines back up before the morning rush. they were able to do it all the university -- at university and connecticut. huge improvements here. so far they have not fixed it. we did

we are here at the corner of connecticut avenue and it looks like decatur avenue and this is where the beginning of the traffic troubles are really going to start this morning. several blocks of connecticut avenue southbound are completely shut down. the entire southbound lane shut down. just snarls of trees and power lines covering all three of those southbound lanes. what they've had to do is take the northbound lanes and make those into basically one lane coming south and two lanes going north. the drivers will need to use extreme caution in that area this morning. it is just one of the trouble spots that we're expecting to see. today is the day that pepco expects to get more boots on the ground and also into the neighborhoods. they are expecting those mutual assistance crews to come there from a couple other states. oklahoma, florida, georgia and missouri, they were also pleased that they got a call from new brunswick, canada saying they can come and help. they had initially asked for a thousand additional crews and were not able to get as many as they wanted because, as we know, m

pepco crews have arrived here at the corner of connecticut avenue and decatur avenue in kensington. they are doing some work up on the utility pole there now. just because they are doing the work there doesn't mean the power will come on to the power any time soon if you take a look at connecticut avenue here, you can see just how extensive the problem is. we've got utility poles that need to be replaced. huge trees down across the road. we haven't seen any southbound traffic actually coming through here in a while which leads me to believe that perhaps they have shut down some of the southbound traffic although we are still seeing northbound traffic coming through on connecticut avenue. today is date that pepco expects to get more crews, more boots on the ground. they are coming from florida, georgia, oklahoma, missouri and canada. they are going to get here, get their orders and they are going to get out into the neighborhoods. pepco had requested the help of a thousand extra utility workers from extra states but the initial response, only a few hundred. that is because the situat
pepco crews have arrived here at the corner of connecticut avenue and decatur avenue in kensington. they are doing some work up on the utility pole there now. just because they are doing the work there doesn't mean the power will come on to the power any time soon if you take a look at connecticut avenue here, you can see just how extensive the problem is. we've got utility poles that need to be replaced. huge trees down across the road. we haven't seen any southbound traffic actually coming...
