degette: ms. evans, i want to ask you, obviously protecting our children from covid-19, can't be the parents' only focus as we learn about these exacerbated mental health struggles. briefly with the mental health and well-being in mind, what should the parents and communities be doing now to prevent this crisis? please turn your mike on, thanks. dr. evans: a number of things. the first thing parents need to recognize is one of the biggest predictors of how well their children will do is how they do. and around a lot of these issues, there's been a lot of anxiety, a lot of issues with people talking about these issues. and so the first thing they have to recognize is they have to take care of them themselves. the other is children are being affected by the pandemic but not only the pandemic, all the things around the pandemic, the financial uncertainty and other issues and that they have to be on the lookout that their children are experiencing difficulty and doing everything they can to connect th

degette: thank you. all of the areas in this bill, all of the six areas in this bill have been studied, have been worked on, and have been under consideration for several decades. as my colleague, mr. schiff, pointed out. the areas in colorado were -- most of the areas in my bill were originally designated as wilderness study areas in the 1980's. and they have already been managed as wilderness for almost 40 years. and so what this would do is it would simply make permanent what everybody in colorado knows. these are the most special wild areas that we can have. my colleague from colorado says -- alleges that helicopter training would be prevented in this bill, but in fact, that's incorrect. because after working with the national guard, we withdrew the areas that were scheduled to be wilderness and called them potential wilderness so that the helicopters can continue to land there. as i pointed out in my opening statement, allowing our military to have the high level training that they need. and finally

and i remember diana degette leaning over the railing and saying, what about us? there was this sense that we did not know how we were going to get out of there. all the doors on our side had been barricaded. we did not want to go out that way because we did not know what was on the others of the doors. and we started getting instructions that were kind of conflicting, but the thrust of the instructions were to go around the perimeter of the gallery to the far side, which is again what i would call the republican side of the gallery. because there was one open door over there, which was clear -- if you picture a football field, we are on one end of the football field and we have to go all the way around the perimeter the problem was to get there, for those who know the gallery, it is a very tight space. the seats are like the most crowded movie theater you have ever been in, with handrails every several rows of seats. you had to go either under or over the handrail to make progress. plus, a lot of us were carrying purses and backpacks, and we were instructed to ta

diana degette and i are working again on a cures 2.0 bill where that will be included. but as part of 21st century cures, we also asked the fda, what could we do to help you do your job better? how do we help you approve the cures earlier so we can deal with these folks and not have them languish and die before their lives can be bettered or hopefully find a cure like we did with cf, cystic fibrosis, and some other things, sickle cells, remarkable achievements in terms of what went on. and so i know, dr. cavazzoni, you've got an important role and i've appreciated your testimony, and i've looked at the testimony of the next panel that's coming. particularly the als community is so frustrated. there's not a cure. can we better their lives? can we extend them so they can do some things that are certainly more functional and provide the hope that at some point we will have a cure? i think that's a frustration that all of us share with their group, and i know that when i look at the testimony from the als association coming on the next panel which probably won't be until la

congresswoman, i want to read what you write today in an op-ed in "the hill" with congresswoman diana degettewill take a critical step. the majority of voters say in poll after poll that abortion should be legal and that roe should be the law of the land. whpa, the women's health protection act, is that law and with the looming specter of texas sb-8, the time to pass it is now. this point about public opinion extends to republicans. the majority of republicans would like to see roe remain the law of the land. i wonder why it is sort of accepted in today's coverage that the bill's failure in the senate is a foregone conclusion. >> i'm not sure why that is the case, because we know it's not going to be easy, but nothing is when it involves the senate at this point, given the numbers and the margins, but i believe because the public is with us, the public understands, whether they agree or disagree with abortions, they agree that women should have the right. people should have the right to have control over their own bodies, and in fact, should have the full range of reproductive health services
